Has anyone given up on letrozole and started another drug. I Carnt stand the side effects any longer. I changed to femera two months ago after six months on another brand    Is anyone able to take these tablets and lead a normal life xx. I’m going to make an appointment to see my consultant see if he will change for me x

  • HI

I'm not on Letrozole (Anastrozole for me).  But have you researched coatings on all the brands for Letrozole?  I did this research on Anastrozole and Teva and Accord had similar coatings and then another one that I had been given had significantly different ingredients in its coatings.  I had been given this one when they didn't have any Accord - and OMG the side effects!!!  I had barely anything on Accord but this one, it was like I had been run over by a truck, I ached so much.  I then asked for Teva when they ran out of Accord again  - and was fine,

Other than this, by replying to your post, there may be some ladies around now who see your post as I've bumped it back to first page.

    Best Wishes, Lesley

  • Hi Figgy2019

I’ve been on Letrozole five months, suffered with insomnia and hand pains three weeks into my first box, consultant allowed a six week break but insomnia continued but it’s not as bad now. Since the aim of these AI’s is to remove oestrogen from our body, it follows that certain effects are due to this depletion. My symptoms have settled somewhat which is apparently usual after six months. I’ve had Manx, Accord and the Sun Pharma brands, not by choice but were supplied by my pharmacy over the months. Femera is the original brand Letrozole, the others are all generics. Like Lesley, I also researched the brands and their ingredients. I informed my pharmacist not to give me the Teva or Cipla brands. Cipla has tartrazine as an ingredient, don’t understand why they felt the need to include this as tartrazine is a known bad reactor.

Hope you find a solution. Best wishes x

  • Thankyou for your reply. Which brand are you on please. I am taking femera  I was on crescent before. I think I might give it another six weeks see how I go x

  • Thankyou for your reply   X. I’m going to persevere for six more weeks and if no better see my consultant.  That is what my bcn recommended yesterday when I was feeling very down. !!

  • I can empathise! I burst into tears at my appointment I felt so sleep deprived. My hormone status was ER8/PR8 so feel I have to stick with the Letrozole.

  • If I don’t stick with letrozole I will ask for anastrozole. The nurse said everyone is different and if it affects your quality of life they will help you change xx

  • Hi Figgy2019,

I seem to be one of the lucky ones as I've been taking Letrozole for four months and have been fine. Also had three different brands in that time.

    Best wishes x

Hi I gave up on letrozole felt dreadful came off all meds for  Xmas as wanted to feel normal . I felt great saw oncologist end if jan not going back on it   I'm going to try tamoxifen even though I'm post menopause but I'm low risk

  • Hi, femera  is the original Letrozole, the others are generics, so the same drug, but in different packaging (the only way I can describe it).  I have heard many people tolerate femera best. Best wishes to you.
