Control pants

Hi everyone,

New member here.

I had a mastectomy and diep reconstruction on Saturday and came home on Wednesday with a drain in.   I have had the drain removed today so have started to wear the firm control pants.

I'm finding them a real struggle to get on and off even though I bought the right size.  I don't know if I'm just not used to wearing them or if I need to get different ones.

May I ask, did anyone else have this issue and is it more important to be comfortable or is it tighter the better?

Thanks

  • I am 2 weeks after my diep, it’s interesting how we are told different things. I’ve not been told to wear control pants nor supplied with any, but I have been given a waist support, just wraps around waist and secures with Velcro and been told to wear it when walking. I have to say I don’t think I’d be able to get them up if they required too much effort See no evilRofl  my movement in my arm where they did the axillary sweep wouldn’t take it. Someone else has mentioned control pants  to me too, did the hospital advise/supply you? X

    Hi Anna,

Thank you for your response and I hope you are doing well, I look forward to being another week along!

It is strange how there are such differences.  Yes my plastic surgeon and his nurses all advised me to get the control pants,  I'd prefer the velcro option if I'm honest, when you've hobbled to the loo the last thing you need is a struggle with tight fitting pants Joy

I'm back with the nurse on Tuesday for a dressing change so I think I will speak with her as my worry is that I will subconsciously drink less water to avoid loo runs as much as possible.   I've just ordered a larger sized pair for collection on Monday so I'll see how I go over the weekend and if they are too uncomfortable I'll go without until I get the larger ones. X

  • Yes I would ask them, I’ll ask too as I’m having another appointment on Monday. I really don’t think I could wear them RoflRofl I have to say being the second week on is good! It’s a big leap forward, I hope you’re soon feeling more comfortable, don’t stop taking the painkillers xx

Thank you Anna, have a good night xx

  • I had the DIEP surgery in September and was advised by the Breast Care Nurse in advance to buy one size larger from Primark.

Thank you for that, I did buy larger than my usual size initially but I'm wondering if these ones just run small, I've ordered a bigger size as well now so hopefully they will be a little easier.

    Take care
