Hi I’m newly diagnosed, and my IBD nurse has told me to stop Azathioprine which is keeping my bowels on remission prior to starting chemo. Is there any one on here that also has Crohn’s disease and had to stop taking there meds?
Thank you Ann, I might have to ask in the bowel cancer group there maybe more of a chance of someone having Crohns in there. Xx

Hi, I have Crohn’s disease and was diagnosed with breast cancer last May. I had 6 rounds of chemo (3 of ec, 3 of docetaxel), I stopped taking azathioprine when I started the chemo, my crohns was very up and down while on chemo and now I’m 6 months post chemo I’m definetly in a flare. I hope things go well for you and I’m happy to answer any questions that you have x
Hi Pocket rocket I know you have now had your answer and your IBD consultant has spoken .Just to add I have diverticula disease and like you was advised by my onco to stop taking my meds this was then confirmed by IBD dept. Also Chemo plan was changed and Docetaxel removed as would have aggravated bowel .
Obviously my IBD is different to you but have to say EC chemo put my diverticular into remission …finished chemo Dec. 2019 and haven’t started meds again .
so you may get a break from your symptoms.
Hi thank you for your reply, I guess it will be a wait and see, to be honest I wanted to try come off it anyway so fingers crossed xx
Hi Margaret, after such gruelling treatment I hope you remain in remission, that would be an added bonus for you. Fingers crossed that It works for me too as I wanted to try come off the meds anyway. Xx
