Hi , I finished radiotherapy to my right breast 10 weeks ago but the area around my nipple is still really sore, I have used moisturiser but doesn’t seem to be getting better is this normal.

  • Hello. Yes this is normal. I was told by physio that it can take up to 6 months for it to feel more normal. I finished rads mid Sept so its only been 4 months. My boob is still swollen, is a shade darker and I have swelling in armpit. Using plenty of moisturiser too but going through a spell of very dry skin which I suspect is also the tamoxifen.  The lymphoedema nurse ( who won't confirm if I actually have that) says it can take up to 2 years to settle down. My nipple has also been quite sore to the touch. Hoping you don't have all of these issues too but its a personal thing but things its more of a long haul recovery. I've found rads a lot harder than the surgery. Keep going ... one day at a time x

  • I finished radiotherapy mid October and still have a lot of swelling and some discomfort.  I did get my oncologist to take a look last week and she thought it was a fairly usual reaction to radiotherapy as it can take 6 months or more to settle down.  She said she'll refer me to the long term effects specialist if it continues after 6 months.  Hope it eases soon for you.

  • Hiya I finished radiotherapy in October last year and I have still got pain/tenderness in and around my breast. I spoke to breast care nurse and she advised it was still early days from radiotherapy and to wait at least another month to see if things settle so I think this is quite normal. I was advised to keep moisturising.
hope it eases soon for you xx
