Hi, Is anyone taking Oxybutunin for hot flushes and know whether dizziness is a temporary side effect?

I was prescribed it before Xmas and have recently increased from 5mg to 10mg and have felt dizzy today ,which I can only put down to one of the listed side effects.

Just wondering if anyone else had this and whether it settles down?

many thanks

  • Hi  I don't know anything about this medicine so I had a quick look on the NHS website which says it's to treat an overactive bladder so I'm not sure how likely you are to find someone on this medication.  I also put it into the search box to see if anything came up in other peoples posts but there was nothing.

You could try posting your question in the bladder cancer forum incase anyone on there is taking this but if it isn't a cancer treatment medication you might not get a response.

Best thing to do is to discuss it with the doctor that prescribed this for you.

    Hope things settle down.

  • Thanks so much for your help and for searching Godwilling. Yes it’s primarily for incontinence, however there’s been clinical trials done on it reducing frequency of hot flushes.. A gynaecologist recommended it, when I had my coil removed in the midst of my cancer diagnosis.

I was prescribed it because of having oestrogen receptive breast cancer and needing to come off my HRT, as well as going on Tamoxifen  (an oestrogen blocking medication) which has thrown me into intense menopausal symptoms..hot flushes/night sweats being one.I thought somebody else might have been prescribed it who was undergoing the same oestrogen receptive cancer treatment, but it looks like it’s not that well known!

I shall get in touch with Macmillan or my doc to check. The dizziness seems to be settling down, so maybe it’s a temporary thing. Many thanks
