Had my lumpectomy a week today on right breast can’t believe week passed already is that a milestone in itself?? I’m feeling bit in limbo with regard to my emotions at the minute how should I be feeling? Everyone tells me I must be feeling positive now the op is over it’s out and the future is there to look forward too but I just can’t get there mentally..am I expecting too much to soon? Is it because my results aren’t back yet that I’m feeling so uncertain? So many questions buzzing in my head maybe I need to park them and just do what I’m supposed to be doing resting to aid recovery!
Realistic question to anyone reading what’s best to moisturise skin at this point and how does everyone cope with underarm on surgery side getting hot and sweaty when unable to use deodorant obviously washing it but find as day goes on get hot and sticky in that area skin sticks together and can be quite uncomfortable when moving it.
I wish people would stop telling others how they should feel. Anyone around you who is doing that should back off, really. There are no rights or wrongs in how we feel about the surgery and each of us responds in our own way. I am completely not surprised that you are not feeling over the moon, especially as the pathology report has not yet come in. So the answer to, "how should I be feeling?" from me, at least, is, "I'd like you to feel that you have the right to your own emotions regardless of people's opinions."
As for dealing with the underarm, wet wipes might help, the gentle kind, simliar to what we use on babies' nappy area, unscented, unperfumed, and probably best to check with the team that what you intend to use is ok, just to be sure.
Hi GreyCats thanks for responding and your right I should just concentrate on my own emotions I think people haven’t mean’t any harm just trying to keep me upbeat and I at this precise moment don’t / can’t feel like that. I’ve had a little chat with myself this morning and have decided I’m not going to dwell on that and keep telling myself I’ve come through a lot, and take it one day at a time… Thanks for wet wipe tip hadn’t thought of that I’m going to give my BCN a call this afternoon and see what she also recommends.
Thanks again!

Good idea to call the BCN. If this doesn't work for some reason, I would even use wet kitchen roll to wipe down the area, water can surely be used if you keep it to that area.
As for people, yes, I am aware that they mean no harm. That is often the trouble with well-meaning but clueless people. I just wish people around us would understand that their role is to listen, not to tell us what or how we should be feeling.
In any case, this forum is where you can say anything you want about how you do or don't feel. There will be a lot of people here who will relate with what you say because that is exactly how they felt at some point or still do, and people here do support each other.
I did the wet wipes too and it worked well. I’m glad I had no one tell me how to feel. They’d have got both barrels tbh. A week after surgery was very up and down plus I felt pretty tired (and had an upset stomach from antibiotics).
My best friend has been my rock and let sob and wail, scream shout and all things in between, whilst delivering me to appointments or shopping to me. I honestly wouldn’t have got through this without her.

I was reading your post and it describes me.
Im 9 days after my op.,right Breast, lumpsectomy.
During the time 7 days in i used flannel and really squeezed water out of it to dab my armpit area.
I get the hot sweaty sticky feeling in my armpit it's horrible.ive no remedy for this as I spoke to my care nurse yesterday about it, its normal, she said it's the nerves healing.
I took my steri strips off yesterday she said I could use deodorant no perfume , alcohol ,roll on but I'm too scared 48 hours after taking off strip's I could get soap on the scar .
I just stink and wash with no perfume, no paraban ,no alcohol soap from Sainsbury's to clean my armpit area and warm water around the stitches/ wound, as I just prefer to go careful.
Moisturiser I use neutrogena fragrance free, and standard E45 lotion as I have sensitive skin but I've not yet put this on my scar, too scared.
I'm just hoping it gets better in time.
I don't feel that it's over, it's just the beginning. It took along time to get here for me but I've still long way to go , & massive changes in my life currently and for my future.
I'm trying to get through each day and not think to far ahead , expecially for results but it's hard.

Etna Flannel is a good idea and just gently wiping I’m really dubious about using a deodorant when it comes to that point I think for now like you I’ll wash with a natural soap I found one today that’s handmade on Etsy from goats milk which is good for eczema and dry skin it’s very mild and perfume free. E45 is a good idea I hadn’t thought about that so thanks for advice. Wishing you well with next part of your journey .

I was able to get on prescription something called Dermol500 and it's doing magic here. I have the "liquid soap" version for hand-washing and shower, and the lotion version for day skin, which I use along with other prescribed products for my currently very sensitive entirely-furless-skin. I wholeheartedly recommend Dermol500, providing it is the right one for you. Since it would need prescription, your team should be able to advise and help.
Thanks GreyCats for the reminder I’ve been racking my brains for product I had for my daughters excema when she was a baby quite some time ago now but for life of me couldn’t remember what it was and that is it. I remember it was great I’ll ask team about it tomorrow. Many thanks for tip! Happy weekend!
