Hi All,

I’m due to start Kadcyla next month.

I’ve had chemotherapy, lumpectomy and and recently finished  radiotherapy.

Just wanted to ask how the side effects are if anyone is on Kadcyla?

  • Hi - yes over 30mins - I will ask to see if it can be slowed down….I have seen this mentioned on other forums too…thank you. Let’s keep in touch and all the best xx

  • Hey Camino girl, you are right, this is a blooming long haul! I've just had no 10, in many ways it's feeling easier this week now that I can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there, it sounds like you are doing well, xx

  • Hi all,

Sorry to jump into your thread! I haven't been able to find much about Kadcyla anywhere.

I'm expecting to start Kadcyla next month after radiotherapy. I hadn't even heard of it until my surgeon casually mentioned it when she was giving my mastectomy and lymph node results. Apparently my oncologist will talk me through it all next week.

From what I can gather, it's preventative in my case. Just wondering how it compares to neo adjuvant chemotherapy? I had Doxcetaxcel, Carboplatin and Phesgo. The prospect of side effects like that fills me with dread! I need to go back to work and get some kind of normality and financial stability back. Is that possible?

    Hope everyone is doing well!

    Mads xx

  • I’m just over a year into treatment. Carboplatin and Docetaxal for 6 rounds, PHESGO, mastectomy and radiotherapy. I’ve had 10 rounds of Kadcyla and I was terrified to start it as the chemo had made me so unwell. But this has been ok. I’m really tired for about 48 hours after each treatment but I just rest up and let the drug do it’s work. My bloods and echo grams have been fine.. I had a short delay as I had Covid (but only knew I had it because I had to do a test before going for a treatment!). I’m looking forward to finishing in December. Next year is my 40th wedding anniversary in January… hope to be able to move on then. It’s a long haul for us all x

  • Hi Mollykins,

Thank you so much for your response. I'm glad to hear that it's been manageable for you. It gives me some hope that I could get back to work.

Huge congratulations on your wedding anniversary! What an achievement and you'll be able to enjoy your celebrations once chemo is over.

    Thanks again,

    Mads xx

  • Hello Mads, like Mollykins I've just had no 10 and can safely say that although it's not without its side effects, it's not at all on the scale of those from docetaxel etc. In many ways I found it harder at the start of the Kadcyla than I do now. I think my body was worn out from all the previous chemo/surgery/radiotherapy whereas I feel more physically robust now and closer to normal. Re work, many ladies do work when on Kadcyla. I'm just doing a few hours a week at the moment but feel I could be doing more but I'm just going with the advice from occupational health. I would say try take a bit of time to recover from all the treatment you've gone through before rushing back to work if at all possible. It is a real slog getting through the Kadcyla just because of the number of cycles but it's definitely kinder on your body than the neoadjuvant. Much love, xx

  • Yes I agree with you. Sometimes I think it’s the sheer number of treatments that is so daunting.. 14 cycles is a long time. I didn’t want to do it but we’ve managed to break it up by ‘doing’ something each cycle, put something in the diary just to break it all up has certainly helped. Little milestones.. take care x

  • Hi,

Thank you for your message! Both you and Mollykins have given me so much hope. I had a horrible time with the neo adjuvant treatment. It does seem like a long haul but I feel more confident that it won't be a nightmare. Thank you both for that reassurance!

Hope today has been a good day!

    Mads xx

  • Thanks Dokur Kingfisher - will do - glad to hear you have had No.10 - keep going xx
