  • Hi

I’ve just finished my radiotherapy on 15 December after surgery and 18 weeks of chemotherapy. I had a 6 week wait for my radiotherapy. All I can say is that I found radiotherapy a dawdle! As a redhead (74yrs old) I used special radiotherapy gel and cream(R1abd R2) and have had no skin problems, was in and out in 15 mins and felt the care and information 100%.
I know everyone is different but hope my success story  will  help alleviate any of your fears and doubts.
Good luck and best wishes on your journey. X

  • Thank you that really has helped me I no I’m probably panicking over nothing the worst thing about having to wait so long is it gives you way to long to think and worry GrimacingJoyJoyJoy

  • Hi I had a lumpectomy last July and then an auxiliary clearance at the end of September, I eventually saw the Oncologist in November and I’ve just completed 5 days of Radiotherapy on Tuesday, They gave me epaderm cream which I put on when I got home the first day, but after that I took it with me and put it on immediately after I finished the radiotherapy and before bed. I made sure that I washed my breast before radiotherapy every day to make sure there was no cream residue, I have very fair skin and fry in the sun, but it’s been ok so far. I had an aching feeling in my breast after the first one and took paracetamol and before every one I took some to, as the bed you lay on made my back ache. I was dreading it but it wasn’t to bad after I got the first one over with.

  • Hi

I’m sorry you are having to wait for your radiotherapy……time frames have been pushed back due to covid but try not to be anxious.Remember that you have already had two forms of treatment in your surgery and you tamoxifen so your radiotherapy is just your insurance policy.

People are wrong when they say you get the same dose in a week as you so with three weeks treatment The regimen is 26gy in 5 treatments or 40,05 in 15 treatments but they have the same biological effect ( I was a radiotherapy radiographer)

I had 5 treatments in August and just got slightly pink and a heavy feeling in my boob.I also felt a bit tired but my appointments were mostly 7.30 pm and I’m starting to wind down by then.

As others have said moisturise often and drink lots of fluid.Ditch the underwired bra and go for something soft so it doesn’t irritate your skin.

    Take care

  • Hello,

I finished 5 day radiotherapy just over a week ago following two ops to get clear margins. Radiotherapy is fine, I just had to take ibuprofen and paracetamol beforehand as I have problems with my back laying flat on a hard surface. I was told radiotherapy to mop up any possible stray cells and I'm also on Anastrozole. Yesterday I noticed some itching, but other than that, nothing else as yet. A comfy bra is a must and I found the super smooth one from tu so comfortable, no lace or scratchy bits. I also use a mixture of aloe vera lotion and gel from Holland and Barrett and sometimes use E45 lotion. Thinking back, I suppose the preparation appointment was the worst for me because of the time I was in my back and no one had advised me to take painkillers for my back! But radiotherapy is fine, it literally takes minutes and believe you me, I'm a confirmed woosie. And as Exraygirl has said, you have already had two forms of treatment. So try not to worry, you're nearly there.
