I had a left side mastectomy on 20 Dec. I stayed in hospital 2 nights, and was then discharged home with a drain. I went back for a follow up check and to have the drain removed a week later. Then yesterday (another week later), I was back again for what I thought was just another dressing change... but I was also given my results. Had I known they would be coming I would have been stressing the whole week in-between, however, I was told they had successfully removed all my cancer, and the 3 lymph nodes they took were clear.
I was so shocked, but obviously over the moon happy, and I feel like I've been on a high ever since. It feels like the first time I've been able to fully relax since I found my lump on 21 Oct.
I know I'm not done yet - I definitely need radiotherapy and tamoxifen, and possibly also chemotherapy depending on my Oncotype score which I should have in a few weeks. But today has been the first day that I've really felt like I can start to get back to normal and it feels great.
Prior to my surgery they thought I had 2 invasive mucinous tumors, one 4cm and one 2cm. Turns out the 4cm tumour was only actually 2.4cm, and instead of a 2nd tumour I actually had 10.7 cm of DCIS! I can't pretend to understand how after all the different tests before hand the reality can be so different.
Anyway, I wanted to share my positive news
Fabulous news and so pleased for you. Its a good feeling when surgery goes well and is successful
That is brilliant news. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
I was diagnosed triple negative bc in June. My Larry was 37mm to start and shrunk to 26mm after aggressive chemo. I had a lumpectomy 3 weeks ago and 8 nodes removed.
Yesterday I was told I’m now cancer free with just RT and chemo tablets left of my treatment! I’m so happy and cried in relief.
It can be done, we are proof.
Fight and it works.
Hugs
xx
So lovely to hear your great news. It is wonderful ! Good luck with the remaining part of your treatment, if you need any, but the worst is definitely over for you, and so successful. Hope you are celebrating. You have been through so much and are an excellent example of how cancer can be so treatable xx
Thank you everyone. This is such a rollercoaster ride for us all, both physically and mentally. I've had some very low lows, so when the good news comes it makes it even better. I've had my frustrations along the way so far, but right now I couldn't be more grateful to the NHS. Wishing all of you well xxx
Hello Pangles, it's so nice to hear your good news, this BC journey can be tough, but we keep strong and continue going forward. I hope your oncotype test comes back low for you. I also had a left matectomy last October, luckily no chemotherapy or radiotherapy and like you i was shocked and surprised with the good news. Sending hugs xx
