Hi,
Surgery next week for lumpsectomy, I was thinking of post op bras but was told a normal crop top should be ok , nothing underwired.
Realistically will I be ok with a crop top type bra or would I need a post op bra.? I'm kinda worried wearing usual ones will do more harm then good.
Thanks
So my after my lumpectomy I wore padded underwired bras as my incision was on top of breast and being a G cup I needed support. Surgeon and BC nurse says fine but wear day & night for 2 weeks then stretchy one at night so limited pulling on scar. This was because I am big busted. Used mastectomy bras during radiotherapy as wires would have irritated and these were softest inside . You can also remove wires from existing bras
I bought post op bras from Royce. I didn't find the crop tops style supportive enough. I'm a 34F.
Ah ok, I'm about a 34b last time I was measured, 3 years ago, I'm still small now.
I didn't wear bras or anything after biopsy as cut was right on the band , can get away with not wearing one for a little while , but did get a bad back.
These comments are really helpful ,thanks everyone
I bought a front fastening one but my 2 scars were under armpit so once some dressings had been removed most bras cut in the wrong place but put a cotton hanky to support. I did struggle doing up an ordinary bra for a while but luckily had help. I'm also big busted a 34ff but 6 months down line I'm still in soft bras but a 34e as swollen x
Hi
i have suffered quite a lot with seams digging in my swollen breast.
I had radiotherapy following chemo and lumpectomy. The radiotherapy has left me very swollen and still suffering even though I had my last session on 6th May so quite a good few months later!
Following the lumpectomy I lived in front fastening sports bras for about a month or so until starting the radiotherapy.
then I found soft cup non wired bras from M&S are best for me as the post surgery bras have seams for the prosthesis and the seams dig in. Although in the post surgery bras I ended up cutting out the inner pocket lining so it was then smooth fitting.
I have also purchased a few sleep bras from M&S which I think are amazing! Look very weird but support my my rather large breasts when tossing and turning at night.
I often wear them through the day too!
Good luck with your surgery!
I've not had chance to read all the replies, so I don't know if anyone has mentioned this.......
They suggest a 'front fastening' bra for sugary time...... once operation is done and you are still under anaesthetic they will put your bra 'on you' - I think it is easier with a front fastening and after surgery when consultant comes to check on you .... should they need to look at your operation site, it is simpler and easier to look with the front fastening bar, saves you have to reach behind and pull etc.
This all said, I am a larger lady and at the time didn't know this was the reason they said 'front fastening' bra - I could find any, so didn't really bother thinking my own bra was suitable...... if I had realised it was for them to put on me and should they need to look I would of made more of an effort to get a new bra before surgery.
Afterward I found quiet a few online, a couple of brands have a zip up the front and are very supportive, one make was called 'ACTIVE' (mine was 42 DD .... I know, I know and I could even get into a 44 DD if I tried )
This said there are a good selection with front zip fastening, here is a link on Amazon.... I have 'not' tried this make, however, I think I will be ordering as price looks good....
and this is JD Williams .... they have a good selection of different types of front fastening bras......
I hope this helps.
