Recurrence

Not quite the New year I was hoping for! Feeling lower than I have ever felt. Results from my recurrence after mastectomy In August came in today. Grade 3 breast cancer, step up from my original dcis diagnosis. My team met today and unanimous decision of chemotherapy and body mri scan next week to see if it’s anywhere else. 3 times in 2021 I have endured Breast cancer/dcis, not sure where you get the positivity to move forward, it’s all so scarey. I guess this is where you put yourself in the hands of the experts. Thinking of others tonight who aren’t celebrating the arrival of 2022. Sending love and hoping to get positive vibes in return xxx

  • Hi

I'm so sorry that you have had a pretty rubbish 2021 and a wobbly start for 2022. I'm fairly new to breast cancer so I can't offer much useful advice based on my experience so far.

What I send in bucket loads are hugs and best wishes with hope that 2022 is a much more positive year for you.

    xx

  • Hi , so very sorry you’ve had such rotten times, I really hope a better year awaits you even if not straightaway.

Sending you lots of hugs, don’t forget we are all here to help support you

Hi Jane , it's Jayne I don't know what to say you had your surgery just after me I can remember so well.  So in August was that a reoccurance?  Lots of women on here with grade 3 . After your surgery did you have chemotherapy? If not you are going to have it now?  My treatment has now finished but like you I'm not convinced that that's me done . Although I do know quite a few people who had breast cancer up to 20 years ago they still going strong. I also had a student you died a few years back from breast cancer. She was lovely and has walked with me every step of the way in my mind. So just can't really sit back yet and relax. Tonight I feel that 2022 can't come quick enough. I suppose that we just have to pick ourselves up and keep going . Look after yourself Jane, Chemotherapy is ok  just keep an eye on the prize , hopefully lots of year's cancer free or controlled  ahead of us all .  2001 has been a terrible year for you , me and others so celebrate its end Jane in less than 3 hours it will be done with X

  • Hey good to hear from you! Glad things are going ok. Yes In august I found a Lump and it was a recurrence so I had mastectomy! Was doing so well, it was tough but was getting used to my new body. Then just last week I showed another lump just above my mastectomy scar to my breast nurse and it spiralled from there and unfortunately it progressed from dcis to grade 3 cancer. I can’t quite take it in. I had radiotherapy last February but never chemotherapy. Not looking forward to it at all. I just feel so low, not sure where I find the strength to go through this all again! Good to hear from you xxx

    Hi there

i also had a recurrence of BC this year my first being in 2014. I found a new lump in the same area in April this year and had a Mastectomy on 1 July.  As cancer cells were found in my lymph nodes I had an oncotype test which came back at 27/100 so had docetaxel chemotherapy starting in September to November and currently undergoing radiotherapy.  Started Letrozole tablets a month ago which I take overnight to try and lessen the effects.  After such a rubbish year in which I also lost my lovely mother in law to breast cancer we owe it to ourselves to fight this disease working with our specialist doctors and nurses.  I have faith in the advances that are being made all the time in cancer treatments, for example I fortunately suffered no sickness symptoms at all due to the latest generation of anti- sickness drugs given during chemotherapy and whilst I did have a serious bout of diarrhoea when I told my oncologist they reduced my next dose slightly which sorted me out for future sessions.

i have days when I can get a bit down, but we have to get on with our lives and not let this disease beat us into submission without a fight.

Go with the results and treatment plan workings with your BC team as they have the info to help you.

    Best Wishes
