Hi - just wondering how covid is affecting visitors to the hospital after surgery and also with having someone with you whilst getting chemo?

  • Hi, in my local hospital no visitors allowed and I have to have a covid pcr test 3 days before my chemo and nobody is allowed to accompany to chemo x

Hi Keepers Gal, I expect it may differ depending on where you are but I had surgery last week (mx and diep reconstruction) and there were no visitors at all. Also, myself and my household had to isolate for 7 days before and 14 days after surgery. Covid really hasn’t helped the experience! I wish you all the best with your treatment.

    Thanks Jules2000

  • I had a day procedure for surgery so it was not an issue and my hospital is allowing someone with you for results appointments, not for chemo.  It seems to be different everywhere so worth asking locally I think

  • I’m in Bucks and I’m not allowed any visitors for 4 days after surgery and we aren’t allowed people while we have chemo other than to drop us off x

  • I wasn't allowed anyone in with me last year and as far as I know, that hasn't changed as I was in there for my 6-monthly infusion recently and still no one allowed in with you.

Chemo actually goes pretty quickly, though take something to do like a book or your phone.

I just had day surgery so by the time I was out of the anesthetic and feeling even slightly awake and had some soup, my husband was already there to pick me up.

I actually didn't mind not having anyone with me for those things and really glad other people weren't allowed visitors in chemo as I wouldn't have felt safe. For EC chemo, the nurse sits with you to inject it so you end up chatting to them anyway.

I found it a bit hard not having anyone to hear what the oncologist or surgeon had to say when discussing my cancer and treatment plan as other people always hear different things from you. I just took tonnes of notes to help instead.
