Looking for advice on what foods to avoid over the Christmas period!! Christmas tree

I'm a veggie so patè and salami style meats isn't an issue!! Its things like smoked salmon and prawns, cooked and cold party foods and eggs! What's everyone's consensus on what's OK and not ok to eat while we go through our treatment!

I'm on palbosiclib oral chemo tablets and I start my next cycle tomorrow (Christmas Day!!!) I have been generally following the pregnancy diet ie if you can't have it when pregnant then I don't have it!!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you and have a fabulous Christmas xx

  • Hi, my oncologist advised me to basically follow the pregnancy diet as well, and I did this until 3 weeks after my last chemo as I was on a 3 week cycle of IV drugs. Sorry not to be more help, merry Christmas

  • I was the same, follow a pregnancy diet. Cook everything fully (if you eat eggs, nothing runny), no unpasterised cheese (cheddar OK, brie not OK), wash any salad very thoroughly - I ended up just eating frozen veg as didn't trust anything else, but if you're veggie, that might be more of a problem!  Nothing with live cultures, though I found my tummy so horrible after each cycle that I ended up drinking a small amount of kefir from about day 8 (I was on 3-weekly cycles).

I gave it 3 or 4 weeks post last cycle before resuming normal diet, as per oncologist instructions.

The main thing to remember is that your stomach bacteria will be getting destroyed by the chemo, so you need to eat things that you don't need your stomach to be in good working order to fight off anything like it normally would. I'm sure some pregnancy diets recommend not eating peanuts? That wouldn't be the case on chemo.

If you're eating salmon, don't have it smoked as that is raw - you'll need to cook it. Same for any shellfish - cook through thoroughly.

I was on chemo last xmas, not much fun as everything tasted yuk too, but you'll enjoy food again and not need to worry about it soon!
