Well had a lumpectomy and lymph nodes removed in November been to see my Oncology as my surgeon said i will only need radiotherapy so i was quite upbeat about it all but only to get there and be told i will need chemo as its triple negative grade 3 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma the chemo is once a week for 12 weeks it is Paclitaxel infusion which i start 2 weeks time I'm thinking of trying the cold cap can anyone tell me if that worked for them please
I had AC chemo back in 2006. My oncologist told me not to bother with the cold cap because I was going to lose my hair. I'm glad he told me as I didn't then go though the discomfort of the cap. Instead I embraced the baldness and wore great hats and scarves. My hair just 6 months later grew back, curly and soft. I wish you well, whatever you decide to do.
Hi I have same diagnosis as you but with different chemo regime, 3 x EC followed by 3 x Paclitaxel. Had first EC almost 3 weeks ago and tried the cold cap which I didn’t find too bad, the first 10 minutes is definitely the worst. My hair has started to shed a little which is a bit worrying but so far not massively so I’ll try it again for next session on 29th so I’ll let you know. When do you start chemo? It does add quite a lot longer to the time it takes but if I manage to save 50 per cent of my hair, which is quite thick, it will be worth it x
Hi@Age63 , I think I might be having the same chemo as you but I have not start date yet . It called CarboTaxol and will be 12 weeks every week . Just to wish you good luck and a good Christmas
Pam x
Hi pam hope you get your date soon have a good Xmas take care x
Age63.....I am sorry to read you will need chemo because the tumour analysis was TNBC. Exactly the same thing happened to me. I was the same age as you too .....Mammogram found small tumours(3), plan was lumpectomy then perhaps radiotherapy.....but no, it was TNBC, in need of chemo. So I had the treatment and I can't pretend it was either easy or pleasant followed by radiotherapy. I think having weekly doses will be much easier for your body to cope with. This is such an improvement in such a relatively short time. But however, rhe treatment is given, it will finish and you will have given yourself the best chance of survival.
Last week I had my sixth year mammogram. Still clear of cancer. So fingers crossed that things don't get too severe for you and hopefully you too will feel you are on the way to recovery soon.
Take care. Love Karen
