Hello lovely people,
I hope you're all doing well!
I am currently undergoing chemotherapy for stage 4 breast cancer, and have decided to do the cold cap as I hopefully want to keep my hair. Saying that, I have bought a wig as I was told I wouldn't be able to style my hair or do anything with it really other than brush it, and I really enjoy doing my hair when I go out.
Has anyone done the cold cap treatment but also worn wigs on occasion? Has it caused any further hair loss or any issues?
I'm slightly worried that it may cause issues with my own hair but also want to feel good when I go out for a meal or go out with friends - it wouldn't be an every day wear kind of thing, mostly just for those rare occasions where I want to go out and feel as "normal" as possible.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks in advance! x
Hi
I'm having the cold cap but have had had one treatment up to now. It wasn't as bad as I expected wearing it.
Since my first treatment 10 days ago I haven't lost any hair at all . I was told only to use baby shampoo and not use heat etc. After 10 days of looking like a scarecrow I decided today I to continue to use my usual shampoo (which parabens free etc anyway) conditioner and style it as usual.
I think if its going to fall.out it will I don't want to spend weeks / months looking like a scarecrow.
There's lot of nice and fashionable scarves and hats out there if needed so that's more the way I'll go if needed .
I have my second treatment on Monday, apparently it's round two when you start to lose your hair with the chemo I am on, so we shall see!
Agree that it isn't as bad as I expected, not the most comfortable thing in the world but with a hot chocolate it's definitely bearable :)
Hi, I just thought I'd share my Cold Cap experience with you - doesn't seem to be many of us using it!
I've used it twice now, and must admit I didn't find it a very pleasant experience!
My hair loss started on Day 18 after 1st cycle. Literally started coming out in handfuls! I am now on Day 17 after 2nd cycle. Hair loss has slowed down considerably but still coming out! I am fortunate that I had very thick hair to start with, but it is getting very thin now! I have noticeable patches by the ears!
My next Cycle is on Thursday, so I shall reassess whether or not to continue with Cold Cap.
I have only been washing hair once a week with Simple shampoo and not using a hair dryer!
Hiya, I did the cold cap through all my 6 rounds of fec-t regime. My hair sadly started to fall out after about 14 days of first round but it slowed and I had enough hair until about round 4/5 of chemo that nobody would know. However sadly for me I did have a few bald patches so I chose to wear a wig. I found this gave me so much confidence going out that I was really pleased I did. I don’t think it caused anymore hair to fall out or damaged the hair anymore than the chemo already had. I would say do what makes you feel good . Xx
My oncologist told me not to bother with cold cap as it wouldn’t work. I had EC x 3 followed by 3 Docetaxol. My 74 year old red hair started to fall out on week 3 so I got hairdresser to cut it all off. Am now 6 weeks post chemo and it was coming in really well - and red but sadly all fell out again and now it’s coming in blonde . Wearing a wig.
Did anyone else experience hair coming back only to fall out again?
Best wishes on your journey.
74 year old red hair? Wow-unfortunately my 57 year old blonde hair (via an amazing hairdresser) is likely to grow back grey - although there does appear to be a grey trend in hair colour at the moment. By the way there is that saying that ‘blondes have more fun’ !! Hopefully others will be able to answer your question- Lots of luck with your treatments. Xx
