MRI results

Feeling pretty crappy about my MRI results.. so the lymph nodes have responded well to the chemo but the large lump in my breast hasn't shrunk at all and is still the same. Feel so deflated after all this hard work with chemo. I am scared I'm not going to have a good out come. Has anyone else had this kind of result mid chemo?

  • Something simliar, yeah. It seemed I was getting a good result at first, with the tumour shrinking, then it seemed the tumour stopped responding, then I had a scare when it seemed the tumour gained 9mm in 9 weeks, which turned out later on not to be the case. Also, when they finally took the tumour out, it was in fact only about three quarters of the size the last scans measured it, and basically the same size it was when I started treatment.

  • How did you respond after your operation of the tumour not shrinking x

  • Hi , I didn’t have an MRI part way through but had an ultrasound and the report showed no shrinkage and I was devastated as I knew my breast had changed and was softer. I have now finished my second lot of chemo (first EC and the T plus herceptin) and my MRI showed no cancer, but need this confirmed via pathology report. Now Waiting on pathology report post mastectomy but oncologist and surgeon are both very positive and when I spoke to my oncologist about the ultrasound he said that sometimes shrinkage happens towards the end of treatment,  and that I should remain positive as i and he could feel the changes. Easier said than done at the time, but I stayed positive and trusted my care team. I also got great support here from others who’s tumours also didn’t show any change initially during treatment. Sending you lots of positive vibes and love xx

  • My understanding was that the systemic treatment was helping against mets spreading, so I was happy to continue even with the tumour staying the same. I am now recovering from a mastectomy, still need a bit more chemo.

  • Thank you so much for commenting. Where are you now in your journey x

  • If chemo was all that was needed to shrink large tumours, I kind of feel they wouldn’t do so much surgery. But surgery almost always follows
