Hi the nurse told me today my calcium levels have been creeping up last 2 times blood was taken ( before my kadcyla). Not sure reason but now realise I for got to tell her I’ve been taking high dose vitamin D3. Would this raise my calcium ?

im worrying now

  • Just to add a bit of confusion the post..... my consultant told me that high dose Vitamin D3 is thought to be a fighter against the 'C' - I am taking over the counter D3 5000 iu ( I did have a over the counter 20,000 iu at the start - taking it every few days, then dropped to the 5000 iu).

    Upside down

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x
  • I realise that even high strength vitamin D is a much much lower dose than the prescription stuff I was on, and so therefore my concerns about calcium levels are probably. Apparently 800 iu vitamin D3 is equivalent to 20 mcg. A mcg is 1000 times smaller than a milligram. So if my maths is right, 4mg vitamin D3 is 160,000 iu. My experience of vitamin D supplements and calcium level side effects is not in the same universe as we’ve been discussing, so I think I just added confusion. Plus, I think I was actually on D4 not D3. The government recommend 1000 iu per day of D3 but up to 4000 iu is considered safe. Above that should be under a doctors advice. Never take vitamin D if you have sarcoidosis.

  • This is why I started taking it in the first place as read a paper stating vit d3 can help against breast cancer… will stay off it untill I get more accurate advice from team
