    1. Yes! I was taking vitamin d and also cod liver oil tablets that also contained vitamin d. It made my calcium levels high, went back to normal levels after I stopped them. I was so worried too x

Just to add my nurse also said probiotics yoghurts can also raise calcium levels x

  • Thanks Suzy I have read this now too so I’m going with this just now. I know dehydration can raise it also. I get my infusion today so can find out more while there I hope. I’ve been taking actimol drinks now and again also

That’s great, sounds like a likely cause, I’m sure your team will be able to give you proper advice. I have an infusion today also, hope everything goes well x

  • Hi  I was prescribed D3 by onco two per day after one month the calcium count in bloods too high ( it was quite high to start with ) so down to one a day . This has stayed steady now for nearly two year .
Be guided by your onco and unit .

One step at a time and ...Breathe !

  • Thanks so much for responding and no apologies needed .
Ive left message for BN to give more advice or reassurance as I’m a terrible over thinker  x

  • Best wishes today too x

  • For what it’s worth I have a metabolic problem with vitamin D so this is an issue I know about. There is no need for someone who is not deficient to take high doses of vitamin D and in fact it can be dangerous. When I was on prescription vitamin D I had to have regular blood tests to monitor my levels of both vitamin D and calcium. I was continually warned to look out for side effects and it was made clear to me that high doses are dangerous.  The effect of a vitamin D overdose is too much calcium, which may be what you’re seeing. Ordinary doses of vitamin D will not cause this problem, unless you have a metabolic disorder such as parathyroid disease. These days, even though my body struggles to process vitamin D I don’t take an excessively high dose, just enough to keep me topped up.

I have also been told you should always include your vitamin D supplement in your list of meds, even if you take it over the counter, including dosage. This may not be your problem but I think it’s important to talk to your doctor about vitamin D and maybe ask them to check your levels so you have some idea if it’s low or high. They do advise everyone to take a vitamin D supplement (unless you have sarcoidosis) but a small dose is perfectly sufficient.
