Hello everyone
i had a therapeutic mammoplasty for DCIS low and intermediate grade almost two weeks ago and had my results appointment set for 9th December. The breast unit nurse called me today to ask if I could come in for the appointment on the 1st December instead as the results were back. I m panicking a bit as I m thinking if there were no hurry to see me ( ie all was clear) they would have kept my original appointment. Hopefully I m wrong and they want to deal with the path results as they come in and there was a slot available. Has anyone had their surgery results brought forward with good news? Whichever way it goes, I guess if I m clear I ll know earlier and if I m not I ll be dealt with quicker..
Hi Gal57
I has the same experience following my tests at the one stop breast screening centre. I was expecting it to come forward as the original date to see surgeon was outside their timescales but it literally was a week after my secondary screening on the Thursday and I knew they did the MDT discussions on a Tuesday!! Of course I went into a major meltdown - although I knew I had early stage BC ( they'd told me that on the Thursday appointment) I became convinced it was because it was much more advanced and serious than I'd been told
In reality it was simply because the biopsy results had been able to be processed really quickly and in time for the following Tuesday MDT so no need to delay discussion with breast surgeon.
I know it's not related to surgery findings ( I have my surgery on 7th) but it may very well be the same situation for you. They've got the results back and have identified a proposed treatment plan and want to crack on. There is a larger than usual number of referrals due Covid impact on screening etc and they all have targets they are measured on so are seeking to move things as swiftly as possible
Totally get why you're anxious and the waiting for results is the most horrendous aspect of this journey I find.
Hope things move on positively for you - I find having facts really helps me rather than my rampant imagination !
Much love xx
Thank you Jurassicgirl for responding to my post! It’s reassuring to think that it could simply be to do with processing the results quickly . Sorry that you ll be having surgery soon but good that it ll be out of the way before you know it ! I haven’t got too long to wait before I know the score so I ll do what I m sure you and everyone else tried to do when faced with an uncertain outcome appointment is keep busy, well in my case read a lot as still recovering from surgery (which by the way wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be ) Good luck for the 7th.. much love back xx
Hi I’ve had appointments moved around and it’s been because they are trying to catch up because of Covid. I actually had my surgery before my original consultant appointment! I had a bit of a wait for the post surgery results as there was a lab backlog but that was explained.
Every letter/text/phone call sends me into a tailspin. Especially when I get a text reminder before I get the letter.
Hello Angua1.. yes, going into a tailspin is a good expression for describing the panic when we get texts/letters etc from the hospital! Especially if they’re in the wrong order! It feels reassuring that the reasons could be to do with backlogs/covid etc rather than something specific to our situations!
You are very welcome and thank you for your kind words. Yes really want my 8mm invader gone and want to know for definite what next treatment wise!
Xx
Chances are they’ve just been catching up with the labs. Also some tissues are easier to process than others. It’ll almost certainly be for technical reasons, and trying to clear backlogs, rather than anything sinister. Breast cancer treatment is rarely a rush job - my relative said she had to wait 3 months for her results after surgery 35 years ago! But these days a couple of weeks is average. Let us know what they say. My results are on Wednesday
Wow your poor relative having to wait 3 months all those years ago.. We really have moved on since then . Good luck for Wednesday Anabrok
They may have swapped your appointment with another lady's whose results are delayed and they needed your appointment a week later. My hubby had phone call on a Monday for appointment on Wednesday abs when we walked in room he said so we seeing you next Monday for surgery in Tuesday. Registrar thought we knew that they'd had a meeting to discuss his tests ;colonoscopies)abs that surgery was needed. They also swapped surgeon as his was fully booked for 3 months and then in leave and the other surgeon had cancellation!
Hi Gal57, I think they always hope the results will be sooner but what they told me was they give you an appointment so you’re in the system and if your results come back sooner then they move it forward or if they are delayed the they move it on. I asked my BCN this exact question and she just said it’s so you’ve got an appointment booked.
