Diagnosed last week with what appears to be a rare type of breast cancer. Metaplastic  spindle cell. I have no idea about this type of cancer or what the outcomes might be. I know it's probably not great and I need time to get my head round it, but I'm in a complete spin. How can this have happened to me? I am the youngest of 5 children. Both parents died of old age. All my siblings are well and there's no history of ANY kind of cancer, as far as we are aware. Bugger. Proper shocker.

So here I am, 2 weeks since diagnosis and I still can't really grasp it. Does anyone on here have a similar diagnosis?

Hi,  so sorry you've had that diagnosis. I was diagnosed with triple negative metaplastic during the early part of this year.  There are 2 groups on FB metaplastic breast cancer group and metaplastic global alliance group. There is alot of support and information within both. I've just finished 12 weeks of weekly chemo and waiting to see what is next treatment wise. What area of the country are you in?

Hi, thank you for replying. I have already googled, but so many conflicting articles that I've decided to give up with that and be lead by the experts instead. I'm in Norfolk.  Surgery next Monday then radiotherapy.  Chemo has been mentioned but only if necessary as I have lung problems. Still in shock. I'm sorry you've got this  too. Horrible, isn't it? X

Depending where in Norfolk you are I'm not far, Cambridgeshire. It's/was a horrible shock. I had BC 2009. Are you triple negative? There are a couple of other ladies on here who have had the same diagnosis.

I believe I am triple negative, but still need to find out more about this. I have an appointment on Wed with the breast care nurse, so hoping to get more info then. Sorry, but what does BC 2009 mean. Brain not functioning properly Upside down.  But good to find that I'm not alone. X

Sorry its the lingo you find yourself adopting. I had breast cancer in 2009. It was different to this cancer. There is a lady called Bena Roberts who has written some stuff about metaplastic and it's sub types. She is a 14 year survivor. I found some of her stuff on line. You are not alone!

I realised as soon as I sent it! How dozy am I? How do I find this Bena Roberts? 14 years is quite impressive! I'm 65 now, so I think I'd be content with that. Thank-you for your help. X

You are welcome. Google Bena roberts metaplastic, something should come up.  Hope you make a quick recovery from surgery. Give me a shout if you need a chat. Take care. Vx
