Worried and waiting

Hi, all. I’m not sure if this is the right place to post, so if it’s not, I am sorry.  I had my first mammogram done last March. I had some breast pain in my right breast and arm pit. No lumps. Everything came back fine on mammogram. Last week, I was carrying a large item and hit myself in the chest.  It mainly hit my right breast and it hurt for a few minutes. Then later that week, I noticed if my child gave me a tight squeeze, it hurt. Today, I was jumping and the pain came back. It felt like a tingling pain, just in my right breast. It tingled and vibrated for a little bit and felt very sore. I feel no lumps, no bruising or discoloration that I have noticed. I am not able to get in touch with my doctor until Tuesday. Does this sound like a breast cancer symptom situation that any of you have experienced? I do have anxiety and this doesn’t help.

  • I’m glad you’ve spoken to your doctor. I had pain like that - sometimes shooting pains in my breast. I was told it was hormonal but when I had breast cancer surgery my surgeon also removed something called a fibroadenoma. It was harmless but my surgeon said the position it was in was likely a cause of my breast pain (it interfered with the normal action of the nipple tendons). It’s not something they’d normally operate on, but I suppose as they were in there anyway…

I’ve since been told that the breast pain I experienced frequently was actually a red herring and nothing to do with my later cancer. However, being in pain is never good and there are several benign but treatable conditions that can cause breast pain. Hopefully in your case it isn’t cancer and you can get some relief but you’ve done the right thing in reporting it.

  • Thank you. I’m so sorry you were diagnosed with BC. I really appreciate your response. Did you ever have scans done for the pains?

  • No, the pain was investigated at the same time as my breast cancer so there was no need.

  • So the pain led you to your breast cancer discovery? That’s definitely my concern too…

  • No a routine mammogram lead to the discovery of my cancer. But I complained that the mammogram hurt a lot, which my doctor noted, but that didn’t turn out to be connected. But he did remove a large benign fibroadenoma whilst operating on my breast, in the hope that that would help (which it seems to have done).

  • I had an exam today. The dr said she felt no lumps but that one breast felt more dense in an area than the other. She is sending me in for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. I am really worried now.
