Hi everyone! I hope you’re keeping as well as possible and strong.
I am currently doing chemo (next Friday have cycle 4 of 6). Recently got the text from the NHS to have a covid booster jab, which got me thinking I should probably have a flu jab too. I caught covid after cycle 2 - Awful and want to avoid any other illnesses!
I called the chemo nurses who told me I can only have the covid jab the day after chemo, and flu in either day after or next day. This means I have to have them on the same day as I have chemo on a Friday. And that means having chemo one day and two vaccinations the following day. I’m a bit scared that it sounds a lot for my body to take! They’ll have to go in the same arm too as I have partial mastectomy.
Has anyone else had flu and covid jab on the same day during chemo, and how did you get on??

Many thanks and hugs to all.

  • If you haven’t had a lymph node clearance you can use both arms, alternatively they can put one in the good arm and one in you thigh. I did that as I have had a clearance. I had both together and felt rough two days after but certainly not to bad. You maybe on different chemo to me so you maybe different.  Your bcn or oncologist should be able to advice you. Mine said have it

Thank you for the reply! I have been on EC but my next session is Docetaxel - not sure how I’ll be on it. EC made me quite sick for 10 days after each session compounded by catching Covid after the second! Good to know I can use the other arm then, they’ve taken lymph nodes but not a full clearance. I’ll see if the oncologist will advise - I normally see a registrar though and not actually my oncologist (I’ve only met him once!) and they seem to defer to the GP surgery a lot - did last time I asked about flu jab. I’ll try the BCN...
