Hello

I am 2nd week after right side mastectomy and sentinel node removal had drain removed last Friday have small swelling under arm plenty of movement in arm and shoulder but really sore under arm doing  exercises and wearing support bra not getting bigger but not going down also past 2 days exhausted is this normal

  • I’m feeling just the same. My armpit is so swollen my bras are digging in. And I fall asleep at the drop of a hat, so I’d say we’re equal

Thanks for your reply Anabrock its reassuring to know that its all normal to feel this way id say im more tired this 2nd week than i was in the first week

    1. Take care hope you feel more comfortable soon
  • Hi Nonky

Like you I also had right mas couple of weeks ago with 2 sentinel node removal. I try stretching the arms above my head but its pulling still. I can get into a t-shirt though.

I was wondering myself when will the underarm swelling go down and numbness too. I guess it will take time, but wonder how long! Doesn't hurt bad or anything just uncomfy! I find that it's better once the dressing came off, less itchy.

Did you put any cream on wound? Grateful to be showering like normal. I also feel more tired this week..how strange we seem to be in the same shoes!!

  • I had my lumpectomy and SNB in April. I'd say it took at least 3 weeks to notice much in the way of improvement in my swelling, and then lots of improvement from 6 weeks onwards.

I found it helpful to think of recovery in terms of week to week rather than day to day. I did see a difference week to week when I thought about it.

Two weeks after surgery is still very early! Your body is doing a lot of adjusting and healing so I'm not surprised that you feel exhausted. Rest up and know that things will improve. But if in any doubt do ring your breast care nurse for reassurance.
