I have finished with intravenous chemotherapy and now just on herceptin injections. The herceptin causes diarrohea and fatigue for a few days. I am due to start radiotherapy this week. Can anyone tell me about the tiredness it causes? Is it likely to be instant and be the same day that you've had the treatment or is it like chemotherapy and has a build up effect and not be for several days? Just trying to plan ahead and know what to expect and how to handle it, get through it.
Hi
Just like everything else in this journey Radiotherapy has differing amounts of side effects in each person depending on the size of the treated area and the dose given as well as your own sensitivity to it.
Most people do have a degree of tiredness which continues for a couple of weeks after finishing treatment. It’s generally cumulative.
Try to drink plenty of fluids as this can help
Good luck
I didn't find any additional tiredness on radiotherapy, and managed to work full time throughout. I had chemo first and found that quite tough. I think a lot of people who have had chemo, find that radiotherapy is fairly straightforward compared to what they went though on chemo.
Also, if people have had surgery then rads with no chemo, then they've had a whirlwind to get there, so that in itself must be exhausting. By the time I had rads, it was the end of my main treatment and I was feeling pretty good about that!
Good luck
