Hey! I’m over 3 years from initial diagnosis, I take letrozole daily, my ovaries have been removed! My feet hurt so much at the end of the day….when I’m busy working and walking it’s fine….but as the night draws in, my feet and lower leg start to hurt…like they are really tired! Sore, aching, cramp sometimes. They feel like they are burning….
I have spoken to my oncologist, who sort of dismisses it…is it chemo driven or drugs? I ask but don’t really get a straight answer! I am finding the discomfort hard….seems to be there constantly after I ‘stop’. I have tried all sorts….painkillers, special socks/supports, massage machines…..etc.
Any ideas, at all, however random….are appreciated! I will be taking letrozole for the next 7 years all being well…son I need to find a better way to cope….and I know you guys are really the experts!
Hello Galligirl
I will start by saying I am not an expert, jut a chap that cared for his wife on a 12 year cancer journey, but I hope my answer helps.
Any drug that causes you pain is a red flag, you need to find out what is going on, to do nothing could lead to more serious problems.
Speak to your oncologist again and if you are not happy with the answer don`t be scared to ask for a second opinion, it should not be held against you.
You could also speak to a specialist breast care nurse or the chemo unit of the hospital you are under, both should be able to offer advice.
You can google the drug name and you will find a list of the side effects that are known.
You could also see if you are entitled to a community nurse, they do a great job.
Hope this helps.
John.
My feet are sore when I first get up, either out of bed or from sitting for too long but it does wear off quite quickly once walking. I'm on exemestane.
I run as well and went through a spell of plantar fasciitis, which I've never had before. I think my ligaments re more prone to inflammation on exemestance as I also have a very sore wrist.
I found massaging my legs helped with the pain as for me, it is often other muscles and ligaments pulling on the one that is painful that causes more pain.
You could give that a try, but also agree that going back to your medical tm is a good idea as feet sore all the time is not an acceptable way to live for the next 7 years!
Hi Galligirl. I too take Letrozole, but I am not sure whether your problems are caused by that drug....there are all sorts of aches and pains from this drug....but........I started chemo in April2019 and finished the 6 treatments in September 2019 and then had surgery. Two of the chemo drugs can cause Peripheral neuropathy which affects the feet and fingers. I suffer from this and by the end of the day when I am tired it is always worse. Some peripheral neuropathy will get better over time and some can last.....it might be best to have a word with your oncologist again....
Hope this helps....all the best
Ratty.....xxx.
