  • I didn't drive to and from chemo - I couldn't have drive afterwards. You just don't know how you'll react.

I did drive down to my local GP in my village - about 1.5 miles of easy, quiet roads - to get my bloods 2 days before each chemo, and I drove to get my zoladex injection to the same medical centre. The zoladex. injections were every 4 weeks, so the timing of that meant that one of them was a week after chemo. I asked my husband to drive me down as I wasn't feeling up to it - still very spaced out, I couldn't have trusted my reactions in a car.

  • Hello Di54, in addition to what has already been posted bear in mind that you are likely to be taking other medication along with your chemo which may effect your ability to drive. At one point I had to take steroids plus anti-sickness tablets (up to 11 a day), plus inject myself, so you should only drive when you know how the chemo and various other medications will effect you. As others have posted, there will be some periods during chemo when you will feel better and safe to drive. I'm nearly reaching the end of 8 chemo cycles but still haven't risked any more than local, short drives since starting chemo due to the potential risks from the tiredness/exhaustion I'm been suffering from throughout, in addition to any other medication related side effects. There will be other options available if you need to drive to get to the hospital for appointments, and things like supermarket and other supplies are all easy to have delivered plus reduce the risks of catching infection. Take care, whatever you decide x

  • Hi everyone thanks for your replies it gives me more of an idea what to expect. I won’t be driving to and from appointments it was more during the times I may feel ok that I would be driving but will have to see how I react to the chemotherapy first.

  • I don’t drive to and from chemo, was advised not to and as other have said personally I didn’t feel ‘with it’ enough but I do drive a day or so after chemo on days I feel well enough x
