Hi Family

has anyone experienced central back pain which feels like someone is drilling concrete in your back with some breath taking shooting pains up or down the spine

I am made to believe this is the effect of doxitaxel and filgratrim, I ve been taking loratidine prior to the injection which seems to keep the pain at bat until day 5 (my last day if filgastrim) it feels like my back will crumble anytime

it’s seems to get worse with each cycle

I am on Regular codeine, paracetamol and oromorph

I am wandering if this type of pain is normal

I ve asked 2 of my colleagues who went through the treatment, there pain wasn’t as bad as mine

my consultant is aware of the pain but she said she can’t afford to take me off filgastrim as my neutered are only at a casp, hence advised me to keep on top of Reg analgesia

    • Hello. Sorry to hear about the pain you're experiencing. I have also been having bad  back pain which comes in spasms. It only happens after my 5th filirastim injection (with docetaxel) and is in the lower back. I've been  managing it with paracetamol so far and it hasn'tbeen as bad  as yours sounds. I previously spent 3 nights in hospital due to low neutrophils and was very unwell so I'm putting up with the pain as I've only got one more docetaxel cycle to go. Sorry, not much help but hope you get through it ok x

    Hey Lalalou,

    Thankyou for responding

I feel reassured that you experience the same even if it’s not as bad… I was beginning to think there must something very wrong with my back. Thankyou so much

  • I've not had children but the pain seemed like it was similar to how contractions would feel like if that makes sense! Glad that you feel more reassured as there's a natural tendency to worry that every ache, pain, twinge means the cancer has spread. Hope things improve for you soon

  • Hi Shaz, I too get the back pain and was woken in the night with it so it’s very uncomfortable but yours sounds more severe than mine, mines definitely caused by the filgastrim abd starts the same time in each cycle, I can usually control it with ibuprofen and paracetamol x

    Thankyou Anna,

yes it seems to be always on day 5 of the filgastrim injections but the intensity seems to increase with each cycle….
God help meFace palm tone3‍♀️…. I am starting EC on my next 3 cycles… hopefully it will be more kinder to me than the DPT

  • Yup! Day 5/6 been the same all the way through, I was on 7 injections but reduced it to 5 and that helped because 7 was really painful and gave me crippling headaches, good luck with the EC xx
