I checked my blood pressure tonight and was surprised at how low it was 112/62 pulse 100. I take bisoprolol to lower my bp so am thinking I will check with my nurse tomorrow. I'm a week after docetaxol. Any one else had this. Is this a reason I'm so whacked?
Low blood pressure can be a side effect of docetaxol (see extract from Macmillan factsheet below) so you're right to contact your medical team to let them know. I'm on docetaxol and it is causing me to feel really tired/exhausted so you may be suffering from a combination of side effects but best to get checked over.
Less common side effects
Low blood pressure
This treatment may cause low blood pressure. Tell your doctor or nurse if you have ever had any problems with your blood pressure. Your nurse will check it regularly during treatment. Let them know if you feel dizzy
I don't think that blood pressure is clinically low, but if your BP is usually higher then probably something just to mention to your oncologist before the next cycle. They keep you hooked up to a BP machine throughout treatment anyway, so you'll be well looked after.
Mine is usually around 100/70 - on docetaxel and also after my operation, it did drop to 88/55 so they kept me in until it got up a bit but they weren't too worried about it.
I found I got pretty dizzy on docetaxel, but my bloods had taken a battering by then and I was breathless just walking for 2 mins ( I still jogged a bit on EC), I think because of low red blood count. Your pulse will be a bit high because your heart is trying to pump around oxygen using reduced blood cells. I remember having a lot of heart palpitations too, which were not fun.
Unfortunately, everything takes a bit of a battering! And for me, side effects of docetaxel kept coming throughout the cycle, unlike EC, where I felt bad at first and got better and better.
Thanks....I am on medication to lower my blood pressure! So it was a surprise to see it so low. I'll check with my nurse if I should continue taking it.
A week and a day after docetaxol I actually feel much better .
