Hi, just been offered my flu jab and covid booster at the same time (one in each arm). I’m 10 weeks post surgery - lumpectomy and lymph nodes and I’ve read that you should avoid injections on that side to avoid lymphoma. Should I get these done a couple of weeks apart on the other arm? Just wondered if anyone else had any thoughts on this?
I had my covid jab in my leg. However the nurse insisted on putting the 'flu jab in my arm where the lymph nodes were removed. It has been a bit numb since then and slightly swollen. Go for a leg or an arm where no lymph nodes have been removed if you can. I would also try not to have them on the same day. Hope it goes well. Take care.
Hi Lovemygarden when I had my first covid jab I had it in the left arm which is the side I had breast cancer and 4 lymph nodes removed. Nobody told me not to and it didn't occur to me till later. Fortunately I didn't get lymphoma or any other side effects, none that I noticed at least.
If I were you though I would probably try and have them both in the same arm just to be sure but run it by your GP to be sure.
Thanks Thirds and GodWilling I haven’t got a date yet but will try for 2 separate injections on the other arm. If I can get hold of a breast care nurse (still waiting to make contact from a week ago on the after effects of radiotherapy) I will ask her too. Thank you again, sometimes feels like this forum is the only place to turn to for good advice!
Lovemygarden, I got both my third covid booster and flu jab in the arm opposite my lymph node removal at the same time! Not sure if this is ok but I had this a few weeks ago and apart from the side effects of the vaccines (shivers and feeling under the weather) I was ok.
Bekky xx
Hi ! I had lymph nodes out in both arms as had cancerous tumours in both breasts . Bi lateral lumpectomy procedure.
My BC nurse did not advise me correctly and I was unaware of the consequences of injections in arms which have had lymph node removal and the risk of lymphedema .Until I got advice from a friend and here on this wonderful forum !
My advice is only have injections in the available arm otherwise have in your thigh .
My flu jab in my thigh was a breeze so go for that one ?
The booster in my thigh , oooh ouch . Very sore the next day so perhaps have that one in your arm .?
Just suggestions but could be a plan ?
Peace

With you on that one @lovemygarden .
This forum has been a god send and without it and the support of someone who reached out to me via a friend and who now unfortunately has secondary cancer from breast I would never have known about options available and things to watch out for.
You have to learn quick at this job!
Peace

I had 'flu and booster a few weeks ago into the same arm, 1 inch apart. I had asked a similar question on here before getting it done, but it wasn't an issue when I went to get it done. You can avoid your surgery arm.
Ring radiotherapy My hospital was great provided me with cream and advice and a nurse examined me xx
Hi
I had flu & booster jag in the same arm 1inch apart and suffered no SE.
Take Care

ladies, thank you all for your replies, really useful to know, and I'll let you know how I get on when I get my appointment. Still waiting on a call back from breast care nurse a week ago, just as well it's not something I'm losing sleep over. XX
