Hair growth

I had the total of 4 sessions of chemo and my hair started to fall out after the second dose. I have recently had breast surgery and am now waiting for radiotherapy. I am still having herceptin injections in the leg. My hair has started to grow back but it is like baby fluff and less than 1cm in length. Has anyone else experienced this? My last chemo was September so not sure when I can expect proper hair growth?

  • Hi, I finished chemo in late June and now have a very short head of hair that is still very soft and maybe just a bit more than a cm all over. It seems to be coming back more quickly in the last few weeks.

Yes, I have experienced the same. My last chemo was March and like you still having the herceptin & pettuzumab injections. My hair has been slow to grow. I just had my first hairdresser visit a couple of weeks ago to tidy up the 'uncle fester' bits above my ears. I would say the longest bits at the back are about an inch and a half now. The front on top has been slowest. However, any hair is better than none and I welcome it.

Someone on here previously suggested that growth is slower when still on the meds we are getting and I think that is correct. I used to have very quick growing hair, but not now. I has come back thick and after the baby fluff it is a different coarse texture with curls. Colour was weird until hairdresser  rectified this: black and white instead of dark blonde. Still glad to have it.

I think we just have to be patient, there is nothing else for it.

    All the best
