Hi All
Just a quick question re mammogram and conversation with the radiologist. I attend yearly breast check ups due to a strong family history of breast cancer. I have a history of breast cysts and I usually have a yearly mammogram and sometimes an ultrasound. Due to covid services were put on hold and today was my first check since 2019. I had a mammogram but no ultrasound in 2019. I had both a mammogram and ultrasound in 2018 / 2017 and both times I had a cyst aspirated. Today there were 2 lumps one which I felt myself and another that the dr felt. I was sent straight for the mammogram and will be going back for an ultrasound within the next 2 weeks. I was not unduly worried as I do get cysts. However today the radiologist asked 3 times if I have had breast surgery. I said no as I haven’t. As she asked so many times I explained about the cyst aspiration in case that was what she ment. But once again she said so you had an aspiration but no surgery. I again said no no surgery. Shen then said ok but you’ll be back to us anyway in a week or two for the ultrasound. I probably should have asked her why she kept asking re surgery but I was a bit bamboozled to be honest. Of course it’s playing on my mind now. I have myself convinced that there are changes showing up since my last mammogram . Anyone any idea why she mentioned surgery or what that could be about.
tks
Hi it's annoying how at the time we don't think to ask and then later we start to imagine the worst. It's hard to know why you were asked so many times but it could very well be the cyst aspirations. I had a few follow up biopsies recently and the chap who did them under ultrasound said that we'd have to stop trying to take a sample of the area because the process of taking a biopsy causes changes that muddy the water. I imagine the same could be the case for the cyst aspirations.
Hope it all turns out to be nothing.
Tks Godwilling and Anabrock. Hopefully it is nothing - I suppose it threw me as Ive had annual mammograms going on 10 years and this is the first time such a question was asked. It more than likely is nothing.
