Summoned to the hospital

I had a letter yesterday asking me to attend the breast care unit today to see a consultant (not my named one). I have a horrible feeling it’s to tell me my surgery has been postponed, or hopefully just the immediate reconstruction has been delayed. Addenbrooks are in the news for being on a crisis footing and transferring patients to London and Birmingham so I’m not optimistic about the plastic surgery. The actual mastectomy though needs to be done ASAP. So I’m really anxious and feel a bit sick.

    Good luck for your appointment.

  • Good luck, hope there are no delays x

  • Well look at me panicking over nothing! Turns out I’d been moved to a different surgeons list and she just wanted to examine me for herself, see how the last surgery was healing etc. There’s still a possibility that my reconstruction might be delayed but so far we’re on track for Plan A: mastectomy with adjustable implant reconstruction. My nerves are in tatters!

AHH love you that was my worst fear it would be cancelled but it wasn't , remember we might be in a pandemic but still very strict protocols on treatments times and waits for cancer patients . Well in Wales but that may be all over the UK

    Take care

Ps my surgeon told me they only cancel if the surgeon dies or gets covid and more he already had covid !  I don't think it was a joke either X

Phew! Glad to hear it was all routine stuff. We get conditioned to expecting bad news at times on this journey don’t we!

  • Aah glad to hear all ok, good luck with surgery too x

  • Snap! I really panicked when mine was suddenly brought forward. They were just trying to ease the list pressure and I had my surgery before I was due to get my results! Doesn’t half mess with your head.

  • So pleased you have found out what it’s all about. It’s horrible when something like this causes such stress and anxiety. It doesn’t take much when we are having to deal with so much already. All the best Ana. Ros.
