Face changes

Hi I'm asking if anyone else has had this issue? I have only had one cycle of treatment for breast cancer and the skin on my face has appeared to have dropped. I have creases/wrinkles around my mouth that wasn't there two weeks ago! It's as though I've aged 5yrs in two weeks. Is this normal and will it get worse. Will it return to normal after treatment? I know its a big ask sorry xx

  • I definitely had lots of changes during chemo - it attacks all your fast-growing cells so skin, hair, nails (to name a few) are all affected. I looked fairly awful throughout, but have very much bounced back and am rosy-cheeked again.

My toe nails are actually still really affected and barely growing at all and I am 9 months on from chemo. Everything else is good though!

Looking back on photos, I actually look better now than pre-diagnosis. I can see how much the cancer had made me look a bit grey, and then chemo on top.

Your skin will be better again. Try and eat healthily if you can, which will help feed your re-growing cells.

  • Aww thank you Beatthebreast that's so reassuring. I'm glad you're feeling better and feel you're looking better, that's so nice to hear. Thanks for your message. Take care x

  • Hi Vfox I am 65 and had chemo last year and it aged me terribly so I don't know what age you are but I look better now but will never regain what used to be youthful looks. Cheers Ann

  • Hi Vfox

I can identify - feel my jowls will soon be hitting my boobs! Have just had my last Docetaxol last week so hoping that things will improve. However when out walking met someone and in the course of conversation mentioned my sons upcoming 50th birthday- they commented‘you defo don’t look like the mother of a 50 year old!! I’m 75.  So take heart it may not be as bad as you are thinking, we do tend to be hard on ourselves. Looking forward to some Caci treatments from my therapist to help me on my way!
Keep up a good skincare routine.

Good luck on your journey. X
