Hi, I'm a 39 year old female with a strong history of Breast Cancer within my family (Aunties, Granparents, Cousins). I found a lump which I have been told this week is a 6mm cyst. I had a Mammogram, followed by an examination where although they could see the cyst on my mammogram they said they had concerns about my other breast from the Mammogram.
I had an ultrasound and the Consultant kept saying to the Nurse 'DCIS' and made reference to Calcifications. They did biopsies and inserted a clip and now I am waiting on my results. They said they are trying to 'build a picture' as I have a multi sepatated cyst and asymmetry. I am just worried given the words they use during my ultrasound and said they cannot say if it is cancer or not.
Has anyone had similar experience? I have looked up DCIS to find out more but now waiting on biopsies results for the next few weeks.
Hi
and welcome to a site you’d really not want to know about. Please don’t be tempted to Google as it’s frequently out of date and also full of scare stories.
I know this waiting part is truly awful, results get back to the whole team so they can decide on the very best way forward for you as an individual, and yes, everything really is tailored to each individual person, depending on what is found.
Try to occupy yourself with as much distraction as you can, not easy especially in the wee small hours, think about a meditation and calming phone apps if that’s what you feel would help.
Keep posting here, too, it helps!

Try not to over think everything. I know it’s easier said than done. The wait between biopsies and diagnosis is not an easy time. You’re amongst friends who’ve almost certainly been down the same path. However even if you are diagnosed with the exact same as someone else, however your treatment will be tailored to you.
DCIS means Ductal Carcinoma in Situ. Despite the name it is considered a pre cancer rather than a full blown cancer. However if left untreated there’s a chance it could turn invasive so doctors usually like to remove it. It’s still scary of course but very treatable. Of course they might be wrong - only a lab can be sure. Once they know what you’re dealing with they can sort out a treatment plan for you.
Thank you very much for the advice. The wait between the tests and results isn’t easy. Trying my best to keep busy after the biopsies but hard trying to go over in my head the different phrases the Consultants said. Thank you for your help. Calm apps might help me sleep better xx
