Well went for my results today, 13 days post mastectomy and axillary clearance. The size of the cancer was so much bigger than anyone or any scan showed - 11cm and with pre-cancerous cells around it 13.5cm, WOW!! 7 out of 14 lymph nodes positive so will have chemo first and radiotherapy. Bone scan normal, CT scan not officially reported but consultant said she could not see any obvious abnormality, such a relief. Onto the next stage now, seeing oncologist next Thursday.
You must be relieved to have those results and a continued treatment plan. It was lucky that your surgeon made the mastectomy decision in the beginning as even though the tumour was larger, it has already been removed without the need for further surgery as can sometimes happen. You will feel more in control now you have a plan that will be working against reoccurrence.
I hope all continues to go well for you.
Love Karen
Yes very relieved. If it wasn't for the fact mammogram and ultrasound scan showed the cancer to be different sizes, I wouldn't have had an MRI scan which again showed cancer to be 3.5cm but with a lot of enhancement and mastectomy was recommended instead of lumpectomy and reduction which is what I was going to have. I have been lucky, my breast surgeon has been amazing and on the ball.x
