Hi, am 5 months post treatment for TNBC and I am not on any medication. I am 44 and it looks like I am in menopause. I have hot flushes and joint pains like many others. Howevee, I am having chills in the night for the last 4-5 weeks. No matther how many blankets I use, I still shiver and ferl like ice is running in my veins. I was wondering if anyone else has this symptoms. I have talked to my GP but she didn't have an answer. It looks like it is not very common. Thanks xx

  • Hi

Like you say, it doesn't seem as if this side effect is very common.  Here's a link regarding the fact that it is a side effect of the menopause and a couple of suggestions.  I've not experienced it, but maybe as your post had slipped to the second page (as this is such a busy group) there may be someone around now who has gone through this.

    Best wishes, Lesley

  • Hello . After starting my tamoxifen I did have a few hot flushes but I'm like you I seem to get more cold shivers and especially it feels like goosebumps down my legs and arms even though I have a few layers on and can sit with a rug over my knees. I wonder if this is because I'm a cold natured person ie I'm always cold and have multiple layers on. it has to be quite a warm day for me to be in short sleeves. My sister who is going though menopause has this too (no cancer or drugs). I think its quite rare but glad I'm not the only one x

I’ve just started Tamoxifen and definitely getting chills. Quite hard to warm up once I’ve gone cold.

  • Thanks ladies,I am not on any medication but atleast I am not the only one having these symptoms. Xx

  • Menopause mucks up your ability to control your temperature so any small changes can no longer be regulated but trigger a hot flush or you feel the cold moreand get chills.

I got put into a medical menopause as part of my treatment and I would swing from intense hot flush to intense chills. It wasn't very pleasant!

Things slowly calmed and i went through a spell of having loads of night sweats at the start of the nights and then being freezing cold for a few hours before getting up.

Things are calming down again and hot flushes and night sweats are slowly getting less frequent but even better, I am able to ride them out better and manage them as they are much less intense.

The chills are much better too, I have a generally more even temperature now.

I'm a year since I went into menopause so stick in there, your body will start to get used to it all.

  • Thank you very much for explanation. This has put my mind at rest. It is good to know it gets better over time. I gave got joit pain as well which I have been told it is part of hormonal changes. Neutral facexx

  • Yes I have the joint pains too but they are easing with time too. Activity helps, with the added benefit of keeping your bones and heart strong.

There's a lot to contend with!
