Hi, I’m going in for mastectomy and reconstruction with an implant in 2 weeks time. Can I ask the hive mind of this forum for your top tips on what to take with me? I’ll be in about 5 days, and will probably go insane with boredom. Oh, and only one visitor but not for the first 48 hours. I have surgical bras and pyjamas

  • Hiya,

Sweets to suck on, lipbalm, moisturiser, face wipes, earplugs, tablet/phone and charger, dry shampoo - just some ideas that I can think of. Could you take in a laptop and headphones? You could watch your favourite shows maybe?

  • Ooo, hadn’t considered an actual laptop but I’m definitely taking in my tablet and headphones. I’m queuing up some Audible books to listen to and might watch Dr Pimple Popper lol

  • My kindle is my go to thing to take. Bedsocks are useful too. Eyeshade and earplugs as its often too light and noisy to get some sleep.

  • I had my bilateral mastectomy in January but was only in for 2 nights. It sounds as though the ladies on here have given you lots if ideas. I downloaded a series from Netflix onto my tablet, I'm glad I did as I couldn't get any signal on my phone to make calls. I could only message. Ensure your pyjamas are front fastening and not pull on tops.

    Hope everything goes ok

    Take care xx

  • Spare underwear, toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant (the other armpit), pen and a small notebook.

Also consider the going-home clothes. If you are going to go home with a drain, the clothes would have to be able to accommodate it.

Any medications you normally take at home but inform the doctors and nurses before you take anything while in hospital.

Regarding charging devices, on top of a mains charger it may be a good idea to consider one of those "mobile" chargers that look a little like a tiny brick and which you can use to charge on the go.

I hope things go smoothly for you!

Hi, I bought a 'snazzy' drain belt from Amazon, it was useful to carry drains around in. Someone recommended to me that I take a portable charger as you might not have a plug nearby.
