I'm done with treatment. Trying to give myself some tlc. Never been one for massages or facials. Does anyone have any experience/opinion of acupuncture.  Hoping it may help with menopause symptoms - hot flushes and relaxation as still feel quite anxious about life in general. Thanks

  • Hi

I’ve had acupuncture for about 9 months for my chemo-induced peripheral neuropathy and found it very helpful.  The clinic was run by the hospital and they use acupuncture for all sorts of pain, fatigue, general well-being and interestingly for hot flushes where they have good success.

Before going to the hospital, I had acupuncture privately and I’d recommend speaking to the practitioner beforehand to see if they’re used to dealing with cancer patients.  It’s important not to have needles in the arm on the side you’ve had lymph nodes removed from.

I’ve had acupuncture work for some conditions but not others so it’s definitely worth giving it a try.  Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions and best of luck!

  • Thanks for the reply. I'll definitely message them to see experience. I'm all for trying something new x

  • Hi

I have had 5 sessions of acupuncture at the Royal Marsden

It was offered by oncologist to deal with the hot flushes and fatigue I was experiencing and it’s been amazing.

I have 28 needles put in every week for 10 mins. My night sweats have stopped and my hot flushes in the day have reduced to one or two a day. It has drastically improved my quality of life.

Apparently at my last session next week they will reassess me and I will be taught to self administer some of the needles for maintenance.

As Loffie says they don’t put needles in the side you have had treated.

  • My old GP used to do acupuncture. I’ve only had it for back pain in the past. I was very skeptical about it but was amazing and really worked.
