I know it's been discussed before but the posts I found seem very old.
I am 8 weeks post chemo and have grey hair regrowth. It's very short. I'm grateful for the hair but it's making me feel about 90 and I'm in my 40's!
Anyone have advise on when safe to dye it and what they used?
Thank you
Hello Ted 2006. I'm currently still having chemo so can't colour mine at the moment but I found this site run by the 'Cancer hair care' charity full of helpful advice about when to re-colour and what to use. Might be worth a look: www.cancerhaircare.co.uk/.../
Hi ted 2006
i got my hair dyed over grey 3 months after chemo finished. My hairdresser used a colour with less % of something that she previously used on me. It was too dark for me as I was always blonde highlights, so 4 weeks later she redone the root which was showing grey again and gave me subtle highlights. It has turned out fine with no issues. She done wee patch test before the first colour and all ok
My hairdresser has said she could colour my hair with streaks - the one where you put a cap on your head and they pull the hair through the holes. But, your hair would have to be a decent length for this to work. I hate that streaky look so I shan't be opting for that.
She said it's the scalp that can be sensitive. However she did tell me you have to wait 12 months before you can have your hair coloured so I had to send her information that she was out of date with this view. She didn't realise it was 6 months.
I’ve stopped having salon hair dye since my diagnosis and now colour at home with the ‘Naturtint’ from Holland & Barrett which has less chemicals and the colour lasts just as long as the salon dyes. I’ve found it just as good for colouring grey, even my hairdresser complimented on the colour. The shade numbers with the letter ‘N’ cover grey hair, I used 6N dark blonde but found it too dark though it does lighten up with time, will try the 7N next time. Not only am I saving money but also time as I’m not spending two hours at the hairdresser!
Hi I'm the same as you but only 3 weeks post chemo. I am also in my 40 s and my hair is grey. Someone recommended getting that purple shampoo to create that grey thats in style at the minute. Its just an idea. I also read when your hair is 3 inches long you can dye it.
