I’ve been on anastrazole now for about 4 weeks and the side effect I’m struggling with is insomnia. I go to sleep ok but wake up after about 90mins and can be awake hours. I have sleeping tablets but I can’t take them too often or they won’t work….they don’t always anyway. I was taken off hrt so the sweats especially in the nights aren’t helping. I want to hold out and I’m hoping it’ll settle down given time. Anyone have any ideas to help?

….also anyone else get a big tummy on these meds?

  • Hi

    Sorry you are suffering

I’m having the same effect with letrazole

There are some tips here that might be worth trying

    Good luck

  • Thank you so much, that’s a really useful link. Sorry you’re having the same problems….but of a bummer isn’t it?

  • Yes the whole thing is a bummer to be honest!!

I was referred for acupuncture by my oncologist and have had 5 sessions so far. It has really helped with the hot flushes and fatigue.

The night sweats have stopped and I’m having far fewer in the day.

It might be worth asking at your hospital if acupuncture is available.

I am being treated at Royal Marsden and they give you 6 sessions then reassess and if it has worked they teach you to do it yourself as a maintenance program

I am quite excited about learning to do this

    best wishes

  • Wow, that sounds exciting. I’ll certainly look into it. I’m under the JR in Oxford. Good luck to you.

  • Sorry to hear you've having these side effects.  When I had trouble sleeping when I used to travel a lot for work, I used the Headspace app. It has some good sleep techniques that I found helpful.   Good luck

  • Thank you. I’ll try anything! Lol.

  • I have a bigger tummy,  which I think is my body making more fat to try and make oestrogen! When I took a break it started to go.  I bought some melatonin in Spain (sold in supermarkets there) and take one if need a sleep.  It's supposed to also slightly lower recurrence.  My bones really ache after 22 months with a couple of breaks from the medicine. I take vitamin D with vitamin K, calcium etc. as well as loratadine and sometimes turmeric.

  • I’m not sure if my tum’s bigger or if with one boob missing it just looks that way….but it certainly does look it! They put me on vit d and calcium, but I’ll look up the melatonin thanks.

    Hi

my tum is definitely getting bigger because of the oestrogen inhibitors making the body lay down abdominal fat to try and produce oestrogen. It all seems so wrong to me. What we are putting our bodies through to fight this damn disease Rage
