Hello

I was wondering if someone is able to advise what is the best chance of survival or increasing life expectancy of a patient who has been receiving treatment in India diagnosed with Breast Cancer. The details of the treatment is below in points between a to i.

The patient has been advised there is no further treatment that can be provided in India. Apparently there are treatments including medication available overseas but these treatment options aren't authorized in India for use. It is not clear what country and what medication are available.

Just want to get your thoughts what is best chance of the patients recovery or indeed increasing her life span. The patient is female and 40 year old. Is there any realistic prospect to better her chance for recovery if she was to receive treatment here in the UK?

The summary of treatment received so far listed below:

a. Chemotherapy - Docetaxel / Transtuzumab + Pertuzumab with Zoledronic Acid given for 6 cycles
b. PET scan revealed Mets in Brain.
c. Radiation for the whole brain given at 10 cycles.
d. Followed by Radiation, 10 cycles of TDM1(Trastuzumab Emitace) infusion given.(3 weeks interval).
e. Mets in Brain were controlled but progression in breast and pain in spine.
f. Sent the biopsy block of breast was sent for Foundation one Test, which does not reveal any adverse results.
g. Radiation Given for Spine for pain management.
h. Palliative Care :Morphine 10 mg is suggested for managing pain in the spine.
i. Oral Chemo medications suggested - Capecitabine and Lapatinib - Taken for the last 3 months.

Any advise that you can provide us with is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

  • Hi I am so sorry you find yourself here.

You really need the advice of an oncolgist.  I would start by asking the doctors in India what medicine it is that they are suggesting is available abroad and in which countries.  Then when you know you can try to get in touch with doctors in the country you would be thinking of getting the treatment in and asking for their opinion.

Hope you manage to get the information you need.

  • I agree with GodWilling about asking an oncologist. If you are able to get a copy of the lady's medical file and scans, you could take it to an oncologist in the UK (you can find one privately) and ask their advice. That way you have a second opinion based on the actual information on the records, and can proceed from there.

  • Thank you both.

I have contacted a private hospital and sent them all her records. Scans, test results etc

They have quoted a cost of £300 for the report. I will proceed with that, thanks
