After taking Letrozole and anastrozole both of which gave me explosive diarrhoea I have been put on exemestane. This does not cause me diarrhoea but does cause chronic wind. My pharmacist had given me a new make for the 2nd time in two months. Can anyone let me know the best manufacture for the least side effects please. I was originally sent some by The Christie and they were great but I did not make a note of the manufacturer? Any advice would be welcome
I'm on Mylan and it's been fine. Think I was a bit more sore when I had 2 months on Accord.
Thank you I’ve been on Accord and was ok but am now on Glenmark and it’s changing every month, my chemist said if I asked for it now I would get Keys
Aromasin is the original make and when I had it Boots were happy to buy it by name when asked. I know in the US it's the favourite one but more expensive and not always covered by insurance. The best one is the one that suits you best. I had reflux, insomnia and high blood pressure with it (as opposed to the retinal detachment and ulcer, insomnia, frequent trips to the loo, bone and nerve pain and worsened long covid tinnitus from letrozole!). Only 3 years to go (or 8 if my oncologist convinces me which is unlikely lol!
I'm on Exemestane for 5 years, Aromasin is the brand name and touch wood, its working ok, was given me by the hospital after surgery discharge, after they got used up it was the cheapy cheap brands, while for me Aromasin has pesky s/es, it was far better than the cheaper generic ones which sent me into a zombie state with terrible s/es ! I had to plead with GP surgery and pharmacist to get this, contributing even more to an already fragile mental state, but got some energy from somewhere to stand and 'fight' pointing out in a kind way that if I collapsed because of what was happening with the other brands (BP regularly was 190/87) then it would cost much more for treatment and to be fair they listened, finally I hope this helps in some small way. ~ Maria
Wow Marie this is soooo helpful, The Christie gave me Aromasin and I was so good on it but since have had two cheap brands which have knocked me off kilter. You having the same experience has really helped me to decide to try and source Aromasin from somewhere, thank you, we’re worth the best at this rubbish time x
Ask for the physical prescription and try asking your local Boots, or ask your doctor to name it on the prescription. Mine did that for me so I could try Femara (original Letrozole and not usually allowed on the NHS). The joint pain was better but I was so dizzy!
Thanks I’ve just read that Boots have been trained by Macmillan to help cancer survivors so am going to ask if Boots will help me.
Hi Spicegirl and others
I am on Aromasin, by Christmas I will have had 6 months worth and am due for another review with my GP's surgery pharmacist. I was changed to this from Letrozole because of excessive weight gain. I haven't lost weight but haven't put on that much more. I still have sore joints (osteoarthritis makes it worse), I also have intermittent sore eyes (the optician has given me drops for dry eyes, but still there) I also have an overactive bladder. I may well have to try a cheaper brand after Christmas and am feeling quite nervous, my quality of life is not that great now. I would be interested in what Boots advise.
Good luck
