Hi everyone,
I had DCIS in my left breast nearly five years ago which was removed followed by radiotherapy. I attended my annual breast screening last year and mentioned that I could feel something different in my right breast but fortunately nothing was detected and I had an all clear mammogram. I went for my final mammogram Thursday just gone and again mentioned a lump in my right breast but this time after my mammogram the nurse left the room and got someone to come and look at the pictures and they have put me on the rapid access clinic list and said I would get an appointment within two weeks, I am petrified as last year nothing was said, yet this year they are sending me for rapid access, can the radiographer see if there is anything on the pictures that shouldn’t be there, as when I asked was told that they couldn’t read the pictures. It has been an extremely hard year for me with one thing and another, my depression and anxiety is at all time high and I self harm, which is now at its worst, has anyone else experienced this, please help xx
Sometimes it’s really obvious that something unusual is in the breast. That happened to me - turned out to be an invasive breast cancer tumour. Even I could tell that a black circle in the middle of my breast wasn’t right. That said, they are improving in how quickly to check out problems from mammograms. Until the biopsy that cannot be sure but somethings look really suspicious. Fingers crossed it’s something easily sorted
Hi, I guess is is why we get annual screening, to make sure that anything that has popped up within the last 12 months is caught early. I had a mammogram in mid 2018 and it was clear, but I found a lump in Feb 2020, only 18 months later. The good news is that you are being seen. I would not get hung up on the 2 weeks - this is the time period for anyone who has something suspicious, even for a GP referring a lump, so that is not unusual. It's easy for me to say try not to worry, but perhaps trying to keep busy and focus on other things, work or a hobby or something to distract you. Do you use any CBT or mindfulness to help with your anxiety or do you have a counsellor you can talk to? I hope you get your appointment, and some answers, soon x
