Hi everyone
I have grade 2 invasive ductile ca oestrogen dependant and HER2 positive
had my sec cycle of chemo last Wednesday
On my first cycle I was feeling almost well by day 8/9 even attended a wedding
but this time I am so weak! I feel all sorts of things in my body
I am so tired such that just making myself some break fast is like working a 12 hour shift
I ve felt a bit down today because I think I was expecting too much of myself
Am I just a weakling? Is this normal and how long do people take to feel better post chemo
someone said it’s down hill from now as the body gets more tired with each cycle???
Hi there, firstly, you're not s weakling and this is absolutely normal. We all react differently to chemo, but fatigue is a real real problem for many people. You might find it gets better as you get towards the end of the cycle and then starts again next time, not sure if you're keeping s diary of how you feel, it I found this useful to then be able to tell the oncologist about my side effects. I suggest you make sure your medical team know how you are doing, just in case they want I adjust the dose.
Maybe take it easy and pace yourself, and weird as it sounds, a short walk every day, even a few minutes, actually helps with energy. Good luck and I hope your feel a bit more like yourself soon x
Hi Irish
Thankyou so much for your encouragement
will try short walks
good day
Like Irish girl I tried to walk every day and it definitely helps. Interestingly I was terrible on first cycle of EC to point I was giving up. However 2 & 3 were much better and even carried on working and walked 4 miles some days. Had first of Docetaxol and felt tired after it like somebody sucking my energy from me. I go for no 5 today but oncology nurse has pre-warned me that this one will be harder as will no 6, my last one. So agree it is a cumulative effect but hopefully a means to an end!
Keep strong and do tell your oncology exactly how you feel as they can adjust the dose. However I hope your next sessions won’t be as bad.
All the very best. xxx
I blogged throughout, this might help
Hi Shaz T
Like the others say, it can be quite variable depending on the day and the cycle. We are all different and the important thing is to listen to your body. Do things on your good days and on the ones that are not so good don't even bother getting up and dressed if your body says it is a "duvet day".
Remember to drink plenty fluids, even if you are not eating much and having a restful day.
You are not weak and dont think this for a moment. Many of us have been where you are now. Take each day as it comes and cross off the days until you are out the other end of the chemo. Each day you do is one less of it ahead. This is just for a short while and then you will put it behind you.
Sending you a big virtual hug. I would come and give it to you if I could.
Thinking of you
