Hello guys!
two questions-
Mum had mastectomy mid august. We had post op appt 3 weeks later but some results were not back so had to wait. They however said that the sentinel node biopsy was positive, so the surgeon said axillary clearance will be done.
anyway, 7 weeks post op now the nurse called yesterday to give us the news. She said no chemo. But will refer to oncologist for hormone treatment and radiotherapy. I asked about the sugary but she said that was not discussed in the mdt meeting- meaning does not need.
Is it strange that the nurse called to give the news or does this happen normally?shall I call the surgeons secretary to ask or would this be rude?
also, mum was meant to have prosthesis fitting 6-8 weeks post op, but I forgot to mention and she didn’t either.
should I call back?
I don’t think it would be rude at all, unless the nurse explained why they weren’t doing the clearance when they said they were. It’s not odd for the nurse to give you the news but I’d want answers.
I had my results given to me by a staff nurse as the consultant was on holiday, I was still expecting a doctor to give them to me, she told me I was HER2 positive as that’s what was on my results. I was told last week it was wrong and when I had my auxiliary clearance I asked my surgeon why it changed and she said I hadn’t it was always negative and it was an error. I think she checked my results when she got back from holiday which the nurse wouldn’t have thought to do.
So nurses are fine to give results but if you have any questions about the change in your Mums treatment I’d ask the surgeon because there must have been a reason that they said she was going to have auxiliary clearance.

Omg I feel so bad for you! That must’ve been so stressful, and then to be told it was an *error*. I’m sorry you had to go through that.
im very tempted to call on Monday, as at the end of the day it’s my mums life on board. But just worried incase it’s deemed as rude. She did say that because there was 2 nodes positive that’s the reason why they didn’t want to do clearance. But again, the surgeon knew it was 2 nodes when he discussed this with us.
well 2 nodes from the 6 sentinel node biopsy was positive but my mind can’t stop thinking other nodes may be positive- just happened that they didn’t take them out.
I had 2 nodes positive out of 4 so they did the clearance based on that, I have had an MRI since the sentinel node biopsy and that showed 2 swollen ones still there, although that’s not the reason for the auxiliary clearance, they gave me that to check because I should have had it at the beginning.
I had a error on a letter, it was for my er score. When given results by consultant she advised 8/8 it was also that on my biopsy result. Then on my results letter it was 4/8 so phoned and bcn confirmed it was 8/8 and that was an error. I have a face to face with consultant in just over a week and will mention it. Its not rude daizy, it's for peace of mind and reassurance I an sure the secretary will be happy to help you xxx
We also had an error, face to face the doctor had said 2 out of the 6 was positive but then on letter it said 2 out of 16whjch was obviously an mistake.
they didn’t really give me scores regarding er or pr so although I don’t know what they are exactly maybe I can ask
