Hello lovely ladies, I hope you are all doing as well as can be expected and managing to get out and enjoy some fresh air and hopefully sunshine!
I'm doing a bit of advance planning. I'm meeting my reconstruction surgeon tomorrow, presumably for more tests and to talk through the ins and outs of diep reconstruction and what to expect from the surgery.
I know i have to buy some high waist support knickers, like spanx, but I've had these before and never had much luck with them. It's always been a real struggle to get them on and off! I can't imagine having this struggle after surgery with fresh wounds on my boob and tummy and presumably in a bit of pain!
Has anyone found any support knickers that are a bit easier to get on and off?
Sorry - I know it's a silly question - but it's something that's really worrying me!
Also - I have to have a supportive, non underwired bra. Did anyone find a mastectomy bra worked well for this or is a sports bra better?
Thank you so much for your help
Lorraine xx
Hi Lorraine can’t help with the pants and not had a mastectomy but bought a couple of front fastening sports bras for after my lumpectomy from eBay and love them so much don’t think I’ll wear anything else now! I’m a 10 and bought a medium which is a very snug fit but fine. They were only £4.99.
not sure I can help much other than waiting till afterwards. I bought lovely and pricey front fastening bras after my lumpectomy. Unfortunately by the time the dressings came off the under armpit bit cut right across a scar and still does so I have a variety of soft bras - some are lower cut round armpit. I'm a 34FF on a 5ft frame so well endowed. I was pleasantly surprised by M&S as I don't wear them but their post surgery range was good in my little store. I have to say I'm taken with the sleep bra which is like a supported vest top which I sleep in but have been known to wear round house too. Being comfy is a big factor at the moment. if you search bras there was a recent thread about a month ago where people recommended some x
Hi, I used M&S post surgery bra and it was pretty comfy, especially at night. Normally I actually use M&S non wired range and I love them
I can thoroughly recommend the Reco Bra on here. Mastectomy & Post-Surgery Bras | Cancer Research UK Online Shop I was very fortunate indeed to be given it by my Breast Cancer Nurse and wore it straight after the operation, as instructed. It has been extremely comfortable day and night.
Just a thought on the pants. You could try bigger sizes which would still be firm but go on more easily. I haven’t had your experience this is just from generally wearing them.
I found a marks and spencer bra which is really comfortable and supportive. It’s a front fastening sports bra with no seams called Flexifit.
My lovely breast care nurse gave me a whole load of links to bras and pants that they recommend for mastectomy with immediate diep reconstruction. I'll try to copy them here in case it's useful for anyone else.

Alternatively, you could get a front-fastening bra with hooks on the front if you would prefer:

Knickers: They need to be high-waisted, and a ‘medium’ control. It is usually a good idea to buy 1 size larger than your current knicker size, and 2-3 pairs so you have enough to circulate through the wash.

Royce do a really good front fastening post surgery support bra that looks just like the one that my hospital provided me with , they also have a whole range of non wired post surgery bras
I've just loved and lived in my front fastening support bra, once I got used to it as different from what I was used to. Incredibly soft and comfortable thoughout radiotherapy especially when breast very irritable, itchy and rashy.
