Hi I’ve been on letrozole for 3 months. The joint/muscle pain is now getting me down. More so during the night, getting up out of bed and usually after sitting for periods during the day. Paracetamol and brufen only touching it. Is there anyone here who has managed to get good control of these aches and what are you taking?
thanks
Not really, and after 20 months (1/3 there!) did see areas of change on my wrist, knee and ankle joints on a bone scan this week. I take loratadine (an anti histamine which helps with the pain a bit and supposedly slightly lowers recurrence risk), vitamin D with magnesium, zinc and vitamin K, a decent multi (don't take these during chemo) and sometimes turmeric, which is anti inflammatory but had a question mark for ER+ BC.
I'm on exemestane so similar and have been on it for almost 6 months. I have noticed a settling down of pain, though can still be a bit stiff in my feet when first getting up and my wrists went through a spell of extreme pain which is also settling.
Things I take: hemp oil, glucosamine/chondroitin, vit D/ vit K, magnesium/calcium, turmeric.
I am in less pain now that I was, though the only new thing I added recently was the glucosamien/ch as my wrist tendon pain was bad. That is now much improved though not gone completely.
Taking hemp oil in the evening stopped my hip pain overnight, which had been waking me up.
My oncologist had said that most people find their side effects settle within about 6 months and that is what I am finding.
I am pretty active which I find helps. I wake up stiff but once I get going I am fine. I try and run most days which really helps physically an mentally.
I also take sage for the hot flushes and night sweats and that has improved those significantly.
Thanks for your reply. Where do you purchase your hemp oil from? Would I be able to take sage with HER 2 positive and ER positive… sorry, only if you know this. I’ve started taking letrozole the past 2 mornings and I will cautiously say it might be better!
Hi Boaterry I really hope you are ok on it. Some people do very well on it and some need to take analgesics to help. I always took mine at night and was sore moving in bed and first thing in the morning I was so so sore. The last 2 mornings I have switched to that time of day and yes so quickly I seem to be better !
