Is anyone trying melatonin supplements?

Just been reading about melatonin supplements and wondering if anyone has tried them as a natural oestrogen blocker.  They are also used as a sleep aid which would be useful for me.  I read somewhere lack of melatonin is a possible cause of breast cancer.

My cancer is only slightly positive for oestrogen, so hormone blockers may not work for me and looking at ways to reduce excess oestrogen if possible and get to sleep!  Obviously wary of anything on the internet and I would get my oncologist’s approval before taking them but be interested to know what you all think.

  • Melatonin isn't sold in the UK, though is available in many other countries.  I bought some on holiday this year in Spain,  but wouldn't use it as a treatment,  only extra as my hormone blockers do mess with sleep. Intermittent fasting is another option, but understand tha breast cancer is extremely tenacious, and the more options the better! I take letrozole because i6d rather have joint pain and headaches than be stage 4 (which could be the case anyway!)

  • Hi thanks for your reply Londonmum.  I’ll definitely take all the conventional treatment possible. There’s a lot on the internet about melatonin being an anti oestrogen. I already knew about the link between shift workers having increased risk of bc because of disrupted sleep patterns and not getting enough sleep to produce melatonin (or something along those lines)!  I am doing the overnight fasting too which is quite easy and eating all the anti oestrogen foods possible. I think doing this self help stuff is my way of coping and the only input I can contribute to getting well again.

Wishing you all the best and lots of luck xx
