Hello, I am new to the online community, and I just wanted to share my story as I have come to know talking is so important, specially to help others.

My nan got diagnosed with advanced metastatic breast cancer last July, she has been taking Letrozole tablets ever since. And between me and my mum we have looked after her over the past year.

Unfortunately in late June she stopped going out and over the past few weeks my nan started slowing down, then this week she has been referred to the local Macmillan team who we should be hearing from anytime soon. She is such a strong and independent lady and has tried for so long to hide her pain and keep going. So to see her slowly slow down and accept more help from me and my mum has been really sad to see, but we are so thankful that she is accepting help.

Just wondering if anyone else here is caring for anyone with breast cancer?

Sending love to everyone out there affected by cancer xxx

  • Hi , so sorry to hear about your grandmother.  She is very lucky to have such a lovely granddaughter and daughter to help and support her.

There is a carers only forum HERE that you might also want to post on as you will probably have more luck connecting with a carer there.

Sending big hugs and good wishes to you, your mother and your grandmother x

  • Hello

I was sorry to read that your grandmother is so unwell. Caring in those circumstances is very hard. Although there are several people who post in this group who are looking after their mothers ( you will find them posting on the Awake thread) Macmillan have a special group dedicated to friends and family. You might find that helpful. Ofcourse you are always welcome to post here but may find joining an existing thread like Awake gets you a quicker response. There is a lot of experience from the posters there.

Take care of yourself as well as Gran. Hope you find another carer to chat with soon. Love Karen
