I had a unilateral mastectomy in March last year. I had a consultation with my plastic surgeon about Diep flap in December. I had a follow up appointment last Friday and they told me it will be ANOTHER 2 years before they restart recon. I'm 31. This is ruining my life.

Has anyone heard different?

Thank you. xox

So sorry to hear that, I cannot believe it will be nearly 3 years before you get reconstruction.

I had a mastectomy last week and decided to stay flat, however I've a couple more years on you, and was a very easy decision

Can you visit your GP/ PALS/ or speak with your BCN to show how much this is affecting you

Or ask for a referral for mental health support

    Take care x

    Hi,

My oncologist wrote a letter to the surgeon, stating how this is affecting my mental health. The nurse told me that my mental health doesn't bear any weight on the outcome Disappointed xox

Oh dear, it may be worth PALS and just keep pushing and it may eventually get reassessed. It does seem the differences between trusts is massive, could you request a different trust perhaps

  • Hi have they stipulated a reason for the delay. My first surgery was theraputic mammoplasty with reduction done on other breast at same time. In my area they was starting to do these again on the 1.8.21 and I had mine done the day after. Unfortunately was results showed extensive dcis, they could not get clear margins. So seeing my plastic consultant Monday, having masectomy with reconstruction done at the sane time. Best wishes xx
